Celebrating Indigenous People's Day
October 11, 2021
"Today we celebrate the people who first called this land home. We remember the struggles and tragedies they endured. We honor their place in and contributions to the shared story of America."
Commissioner’s Court recognized the importance of celebrating Indigenous People’s Day on October 11 by unanimously approving a Resolution submitted for consideration by Commissioner Holguin. Commissioner Holguin thanked Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo War Captain Javier Loera and Tribal Councilman Rudy Cruz for their words of wisdom as well as the unanimous support from the Commissioners and County Judge in approving this resolution!
38th Anniversary of National Night Out
“America’s Night Out Against Crime”
It was a true honor to have celebrated National Night Out at the El Paso County Sheriff’s Headquarters on Tuesday, October 5! Thank you to all of the law enforcement agencies, city and county departments, as well as all of the community organizations that participated! Most importantly, thank you to all of the residents that came out to this wonderful event!
El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank
El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank is such an important part of our community. They provide millions of pounds of food to residents in need every week. It was a true honor to be at the grand opening of their newest program, El Mercado, which will allow residents to have more of a choice related to their own food needs.
Fabens High School Homecoming
What a wonderful turnout at the Fabens High School Homecoming Parade! Commissioner Holguin was delighted to have participated alongside ISD Superintendent Dr. Vigil and her Fabens ISD staff! It was wonderful to see so many Fabens residents enjoying the festivities! Go Wildcats!
30th Annual San Elizario Genealogy and Historical Society Conference
It was a pleasure welcoming everyone to the 30th Annual San Elizario Genealogy and Historical Society Conference this month! Truly thankful to the SEGHS for everything that they do to preserve our community’s history, traditions and culture!
El Conquistador del Paso and Lourdes Estates Wastewater Project Groundbreaking
Commissioner Holguin was very pleased to announce that the El Conquistador del Paso and Lourdes Estates communities near Fabens will now be connected to sewer services as a result of the County’s partnership with the Lower Valley Water District! Approximately 100 Mission Valley families will no longer have to rely on faulty septic tanks for sewer service. Thank you to the LVWD for our partnership!
Neighborhood Associations in Pct. 3
Commissioner Holguin had the opportunity to meet with several Pct. 3 neighborhood groups this past month! She was able to meet with the residents of the Hueco Tanks Estates Neighborhood, the Emerald Estates Neighborhood Watch Association, the Garden Park at Mission Ridge Neighborhood Watch Association, as well as attended the Neighborhood Coalition Summit.

A special thank you to Mr. Kevin Clarke, Ms. Kristie Alvarado, and all of the presidents of each organization for organizing the meetings and bringing everyone together, as well as the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and Animal Welfare Department for participating!
Visiting Precinct #3
I would like to welcome local and family-owned Economy Wholesale Grocers to the Mission Valley as they open their second El Paso location! Stop by the new store on Zaragoza and check it out!
Stop by San Elizario’s Art Market every third Sunday of the month and find unique items created by local artists! And don’t forget to watch the reenactment of when Billy the Kid broke his friend out of the first El Paso County Jail located right here in San Elizario!
It was wonderful to welcome our seniors back to all of our County Senior Centers! Commissioner Holguin visited the Montana Vista Senior Center as well as the Clint and San Elizario Senior Centers this past month in order to welcome our County seniors back, who have been patiently waiting for the opportunity to begin gathering again for friendly games of bingo and loteria. Thank you to all of our seniors for doing their part to get vaccinated and keeping our community safe!
