Investment for Flooding Assistance
The County Commissioners Court made an unprecedented investment to purchase four heavy-duty vacuum trucks for the Public Works Department to use after heavy rain events in order to help neighborhoods affected by flooding. The trucks have arrived and will make a huge difference within our County!
Happy 10th birthday to the El Paso Children’s Hospital
On February 14, 2022, the El Paso Children's Hospital celebrated its 10-year anniversary serving the children of El Paso! Thank you to all of the El Paso area mascots who came out to welcome Biiip and Ru, the Hospital’s new mascots. Biiip and Ru will be visiting children at the hospital throughout the day every day in order to keep the children’s spirits high as they receive their treatments!
Texas High School Mock Trial Competition
I was honored to have been a judge at the Texas High School Mock Trial Competition! Although competing virtually via Zoom is incredibly difficult, all of the students did an excellent job. A special thanks to DA Yvonne Rosales for organizing the competition and for the invitation to participate. Very grateful to my fellow judges, Judge Linda Chew and Judge Bill Moody, for their participation in such a wonderful event!
YWCA’s Race Against Racism 5K Run
Chilly conditions did not stop our community from participating in this wonderful race. It was a great day for the YWCA’s Race Against Racism 5K run! I enjoyed seeing so many enthusiastic runners at Ascarate Park supporting a very good cause!
Visit from the Texas Water Development Board
It was a pleasure to welcome Texas Water Development Board Director Kathleen Jackson to El Paso to discuss the County’s pending flood control projects. Thanks to the support of the TWDB, there are two major projects underway in Pct. 3 at the Sparks Arroyo and in Clint that received over $37 million in funding and financial assistance! These necessary projects will help mitigate the effects of flooding in the Mission Valley after heavy rains.
El Paso Marathon in the Mission Valley
This year the El Paso Marathon started the race in the Mission Valley, passing by the San Elizario Presidio and the Socorro and Ysleta Missions. It was truly exciting to wish the runners good luck at the starting line and then to cheer them on again as they ran past my home in Ysleta! Visit us on YouTube for the full video video.
Visiting Precinct #3
I am so proud of the student council members from Desert Wind K-8 School! Under the direction of their teacher, Ms. Priscilla Dominguez, they decided to contribute to their community by helping to clean the area around Sparks Park. My sincere gratitude goes out to student council officers Angel Rodriguez and Khadijah Gilstrap, who organized this event, as well as to all of the students and teachers and our County Staff who came out to help!
I had the pleasure of attending a very lovely event organized by the Penrose Neighborhood Association. What a wonderful community event in the Mission Valley! Thank you to Economy Wholesale Grocers for always being great supporters of our community events!
Look out for a couple of new businesses on the Mission Trail. The Abuelita Latte at Cafe Cocol was delicious and so was all of the food at El Charlatan! I invite you to try for yourself; you will be quite impressed!
