Happy International Women's Month!

"Human rights are women's rights, and women's rights are human rights." -Hillary Clinton

Happy International Women’s Day!!!

I was so blessed to have been able to celebrate International Women’s Day with two extraordinary groups! I first met with the Women and the Law Section of the State Bar of Texas where we celebrated women in the legal profession. I then met with the women honorees of the Campo de Estrellas project which honors the activists, politicians, journalists, organizers, artists, business leaders, educators and trailblazers that fight every day for our community!

Big Check Celebration for the County of El Paso

This was definitely a day for celebrating as the County of El Paso was awarded over $4 million in federal funds with the help of the office of Congresswoman Veronica Escobar! These funds will help the County establish a community kitchen to help feed thousands of elderly and disabled individuals, expand the County’s Animal Welfare Department by establishing an animal wellness clinic, and establish the Mission Trail Business Connection program to help and support businesses along our historic Mission Trail!

3rd Annual Deputy Peter

John Herrera Memorial Run

I was honored to have been able to cheer on the runners at the 3rd Annual Deputy Peter John Herrera Memorial Run. Thank you to all 450 runners who came out to honor Deputy Herrera’s legacy and memory and to everyone at the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and Foundation who worked incredibly hard to make this event possible! Deputy Herrera tragically lost his life in the line of duty on March 24, 2019. May his memory live on forever and may we never forget those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service of others.

Tornillo Easter Egg Hunt

It was a beautiful day for our Easter Egg Hunt in Tornillo! Thank you to Tornillo ISD for helping spread the word, our County Parks Department for inviting the Easter Bunny, JPD for filling up the 4,000 eggs, my staff Gabby and Javier for all of their hard work and my awesome volunteers Danny, Rachel, Charlotte and Jonathan!!

"LIARS" Fish Fry

I had so much fun with the "LIARS" (Living In A Retired State) at their fundraising fish fry in Horizon! The food was delicious and the company was wonderful! I can't wait to be invited to more of their events!

Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs

Thank you to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs for providing funds to El Paso County so that we can help colonia residents in need obtain safe and appropriate housing!

Please contact the County’s Community Services Department or stop by the Agua Dulce Self-Help Center for more information on the many services available to colonia residents!

Little Free Library in Socorro, TX

I stopped by Socorro’s Bulldog Championship Park to drop off some books at the Little Free Library and was able to thank some of the city’s Public Works employees for maintaining the park and taking care of the Little Free Library! Next, we headed to San Elizario and dropped off more donated books to the Deputy Peter Herrera Community Library!

Capistrano Elementary School

We made a special visit to Capistrano Elementary School in Ysleta this month to provide more boots donated by the Cowtown Boot Company! Thank you Ms. Sandra Chavez and the administration at Capistrano for organizing such a happy event!

Pledge of Allegiance

Please help us applaud all of the students who recite the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of our weekly Commissioners Court meetings. You make us very proud!
