STEINHATCHEE's COMEBACK STORY
Hit HARD by three back-to-back hurricanes (Debbie, Idalia, Helene), our little village collectively held its breath, wondering if we would be ready to open for the season. A community full of resilience, there was never a doubt. Steinhatchee is open and business is booming! YOU are our comeback story! We may look a bit different, but the fun and excitement that makes for memorable moments haven't changed. We are missing quite a few homes that were typically offered for rent, dock space is at a premium, and our public boat ramp is down to a single dock. Nonetheless, the crowd is here and like our community, making the best of all that is to be enjoyed. The scallops are plentiful, and the fish are hungry!
There are a few businesses that are making the best of it, like Roys and Crabby Dads, operating in the same location, temporarily out of food trucks. The food remains the same and the views are breathtaking. Maddies Market, our only grocery store in town, has not been able to reopen yet. Gas and groceries are still available around town though, and also at the marinas. There are a few new businesses that have opened since the hurricane, offering groceries, takeout food and coffee. You won’t go hungry! Of course, Dollar General, the Jiffy Store and Family Dollar are open and have been an integral part of keeping our community supplied.
Our Fourth of July fireworks – ALWAYS held on the fourth – will be magnificent again this year! The Chamber has added a live band, featuring Jarid Singletary, to the festivities and you can listen to him FREE on the fourth, from 3 PM until fireworks. We are very excited about having live music, FREE to the public. Kynex, Inc. will once again bring the best fireworks show ever! Fireworks will begin ON THE FOURTH at dark and will be visible from most of the River Drive area, and of course from atop the Bridge. The Chamber is hosting an event at the Community Center. You can expect to browse the food trucks, vendors, and even indulge in getting your face painted. The Steinhatchee Projects Board will host the annual Mullet Toss. Come try your chances at throwing the mullet the farthest to win prizes! Vendors will open at 3PM (or sooner if they choose) and remain open until after the fireworks. Come celebrate Independence Day with us in Steinhatchee – we will be happy to see you!
