Mandatory water use restrictions start August 27
The City of Houston entered Stage Two of the City's Drought Contingency Plan, effective August 27, 2023. Stage Two was triggered due to intense heat combined with a significant drop in annual rainfall. This resulted in greater water use and dried up the soil, leading to an increase in water leaks, which can impact water pressures.
The Stage Two designation of the Drought Contingency Plan applies to the entire City, including systems that are supplied by groundwater only.
Stage Two drought response imposes the following mandatory water use restrictions:
Limit outdoor watering to twice a week between the hours of 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. with the following schedule:
- Sundays and Thursdays for single-family residential customers with even-numbered street addresses.
- Saturdays and Wednesdays for single-family residential customers with odd-numbered street addresses.
- Tuesdays and Fridays for all other customers.
Any outdoor water use that results in city water leaving the customer's property by drainage onto adjacent properties or public or private roadways or streets or gutters shall be unlawful.
Any water customer who violates these watering times will be issued a written warning for a first-time violation. Any subsequent violations are subject to a fine up to $2,000 for each occurrence of the offense (Section 54.001 of the Texas Local Government Code).

Visit Wild Oats in the Houston Farmers Market
Have you tried the chicken fried steak at Wild Oats in the Houston Farmers Market? Tanji Patton gave it her stamp of approval on her show "Good Taste with Tanji."
Tanji said, "Wild Oats takes Texas pride to a whole new level—virtually every dish has Lone Star roots. This lively eatery is right next door to the newly revamped Houston Farmers Market, where chefs stroll through the market every day selecting fresh ingredients to put on your plate.
"Wild Oats’ claim to fame is the extra-crispy chicken-fried steak smothered in mashed potatoes and jalapeño bacon gravy. Some say it’s the best in the state."

Congratulations, El Bollilo Bakery,
on your 25th anniversary!
| |
El Bolillo Bakery began in 1998 as a small Mexican bakery on Airline Drive in the Greater Northside. Over time, the bakery became popular due to its great customer service and hundreds of fresh and traditional Latin pastries available daily.
The business soon outgrew the small building, and construction began for a bigger bakery across the street at 2517 Airline Drive.
Today the bakery has three locations, including the Airline Drive location and locations in the Gulfgate and Pasadena areas.

Coming to the Northside:
The Learning Experience, 1915 Airline Dr
| |
An application for a walkable development in the Greater Northside Management District, The Learning Experience at 1915 Airline Drive, has been approved by the City of Houston Planning Commission. The development aligns with the City of Houston’s desire to encourage walkable development and pedestrian activity and create interest along the streetscape.
Access to the development will be on the side of Robbie Street. The exits off the property will be on the side of Louise Street and on the rear of Tyler Street. By not having an entry off of Airline Drive, vehicles will not have to slow down or stop traffic to get into the school.
The development utilizes design elements such as bicycle parking, planters, street furniture, screening elements and cantilevers to enhance the pedestrian realm. The goal of the project is to promote outdoor activity and engagement.
