Jessica Uresti presents photo collage

to Greater Northside Management District

Jessica Uresti, a Thrive Greater Northside graduate, recently presented a photo collage to GNMD. The collage captures dancers from the Northside Festival against a backdrop that includes a map of the Greater Northside, a Red Line METRORail train, a mural in the Northside, the downtown Houston skyline and verbiage about Moody Park.

Thrive Greater Northside is an economic development program through a partnership between Greater Northside Management District and Avenue CDC to help small businesses thrive. The program provides support to the business community in the Greater Northside and works collectively to promote one another to shine a light on Houston's newest local tourist destination. Graduates of the program were recognized during the Northside Festival in October.

Keep safety at the heart of your celebrations

From late November to mid-January, when families gather, parties are scheduled and travel spikes, safety should be top of mind. The National Safety Council has developed tried-and-true advice to ensure your family remains safe and injury-free throughout the season.

The tips include the following topics:

  • Traveling for the holidays
  • Decorating safely
  • Watching out for fire starters, including candles, fireplaces and turkey fryers
  • Avoiding food poisoning
  • Giving safe gifts and toys

District H updates

Houston made history, and it started with you

From District H Council Member Mario Castillo:

District H said loud and clear that public session should work for working people, not just those who can take off at 2 p.m. on a Tuesday. Six months ago, we pushed for an Evening Public Session pilot so more Houstonians could speak directly to their local representatives, and you showed up.

Our very first evening session packed City Hall with more than 90 speakers and 200 neighbors, proving why access matters. City Council has voted to make Evening Public Session a permanent monthly option for Houston.

Starting in 2026, the City of Houston will hold a 5 p.m. public session on the final Tuesday meeting of each month. Be on the lookout for dates. This opens the doors to more families, students, seniors and workers.

This is about access. This is about fairness. Thank you, District H, for showing what’s possible!
