Tour de Northside and Northside Festival

held on October 11

Bike riders, salsa tasters, dance performers,
Thrive graduates and vendors highlighted the event

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the Tour de Northside and Northside Festival. It was an awesome day that included beautiful weather and friendly crowds! As the saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words," so we will let the following pictures tell the story of this successful event!

Bike riders

The Tour de Northside began at the University of Houston - Downtown and ended at Saint Arnold Brewing Company.

Salsa contest

Attendees at the event tasted salsas from Tepatitlan Mexican Grill, Fiesta en Guadalajara and Trigo's Mexican Restaurant. The Salsa Contest winners were, see last picture from left, Caliente (Gold) - Fiesta en Guadalajara, Sabroso (Bronze) - Trigo's Mexican Restaurant, Picante (Silver and People's Choice Award - Tepatitlan Mexican Grill.

Dance performers

Dances were performed by various groups curated by Texas Salsa Congress.

Thrive Greater Northside graduates

Thrive Greater Northside is an economic development program through a partnership between Greater Northside Management District and Avenue CDC to help small businesses thrive. We provide support to the business community in the Greater Northside and work collectively to promote one another as we shine a light on Houston's newest local tourist destination. Graduates of the program were recognized during the Northside Festival.

Ginger Bertrand retires

Ginger Bertrand Day celebrated in Houston on October 14

After 15+ years at the Greater Northside Management District, Ginger Bertrand has retired! Ginger initially joined us to organize our files, then added several more responsibilities, including editing our communications, writing this newsletter and handling invoices.

With the help of District H Council Member Mario Castillo, Mayor John Whitmire signed a proclamation in honor of Ginger. The proclamation stated, "Ginger Bertrand bequeaths a legacy of leadership, generosity and advocacy that will continue to inspire the Greater Northside community and beyond."

Joining Ginger for the event were the Greater Northside team and her daughters Aimee Bertrand and Rebecca Adler.

The Greater Northside Management District's Butterfly Pocket Park on Fulton won the award for On-the-Ground Projects Under $500K in the 2020 Houston-Galveston Area Council Parks and Natural Areas Award Program. Each year, H-GAC honors projects that serve as models for planning and implementation for parks and natural areas in the region.
