Black Friday Big Beer Blowout

at Saint Arnold Brewing Company

The Saint Arnold Beer Garden & Restaurant is where you should be on Black Friday for the return of their Big Beer Blowout! Once again, they've dug through their cellar to create a lineup full of heavy hitters and will be making them available for purchase starting at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 29.

Bottles will be available to-go or to-stay, and they'll have some specialty beers on draft for you to enjoy aw well--far away from any mall shopping crowd. Quantities are limited and bottle limits apply.

Meow Wolf opens in the Greater Northside

Meow Wolf is open in the Greater Northside at 2103 Lyons Avenue, Houston 77020. The immersive art experience is equal parts scavenger hunt, escape room, dance party and surreal playground. Secret doors lead down hidden hallways. Music wafts in and out of spaces. Murals reveal deep messages.

The Houston venue is named "Radio Tave" and begins with an explorable radio station that includes a front desk, waiting area and on-air studio. Meow Wolf encourages interaction. Mario Figueroa, Jr. -- also known as Gonzo247 -- helped select more than 100 artists for the venue. Over half of the artists are from Texas.

Tickets cost $40 and up and may be purchased at meowwolf.com.

Cornrow caters indigenous soul food

Chef Chester Chambers has launched a catering business in the Northside called Cornrow. According to Chambers, the menu represents an exchange of West African and Indigenous American foods and ideas without the influences of colonization. Chambers' recipes feature his two favorite foods: rice and nixtamalized corn.

Houston Chronicle names Pinkerton's and Puebla's as top 100 restaurants

Pinkerton's Barbeque and Puebla's Mexican Kitchen were recently named among Houston's Top 100 Restaurants by the Houston Chronicle. Here is what the Chronicle had to say about these restaurants:

Pinkerton's Barbeque, 1504 Airline, Houston 77009

"The Prime-grade brisket is some of the best in the city. Get a half-pound each of the dry-rub and glazed pork ribs so you can literally taste the difference between the Central and East Texas-styles of barbeque. The jalapeno-and-cheese sausage is made in-house along with a pork-and-rice smoked boudin link that competes with anything east of the Sabine River."

Puebla's Mexican Kitchen, 6320 N Main, Houston 77009

"Family-owned Puebla's meets the city's primal need for homey Mexican breakfasts. Everything about the Padilla family's Sunset Heights spot gladdens the heart--right down to the service, which is so cordial and good humored, it's mood-altering." The Chronicle recommends ordering the Don Carlos breakfast torta, huevos rancheros, chiles rellenos, picaditas and aguas fresca del dia.
