Derrick Williams is our new Project Coordinator for Capital Projects. Derrick graduated from Prairie View A&M University School of Architecture and has a M.S. degree in community development with an emphasis on urban planning. He has over a decade of experience in design, code review and project management.

Derrick will plan and implement GNMD's capital projects and work with community, commercial property and business owners, and governmental representatives.

The Quitman Pedestrian-Transit Improvements Project is GNMD's capital infrastructure project in partnership with multiple partners from the City of Houston, METRO, Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia and Hardy TIRZ 21.

It includes improvements to the pedestrian realm, such as ADA accessible sidewalks and ramps, landscaping, solar lights and more. The streetscape improvements along Quitman Street will enhance the sense of place and preserve the cultural fabric by augmenting the overall quality of the area. The project extends along 1.5 miles of Quitman Street from west of Houston Avenue to west of Elysian Street.

Calling all future changemakers! Applications are now open for the District H Horizons Internship Program—a paid, six-month opportunity to explore public service and learn how local government really works. If you're 18 or older and live, work or study in District H, this is your chance to gain hands-on experience in community engagement, PR and constituent services (20 hours/week).

Council Member Castillo got his start in public service as an intern and is excited to help the next generation of District H leaders build their futures. Apply by 6/1/25; internship starts 7/1/25.
