President's Message

Sharon Neidel

President

2025 is finally I full swing and we had some great events in the last few weeks.

The annual Run for the Crab was a huge success. We owe a great deal of thanks to Pat Burke for his persistence in making sure there was actually crab for your eating pleasure. Jeff Hall and Craig Steele did a wonderful job of staging over 50 cars and providing a very enjoyable drive.

Posse continues to be a great event. It is a great opportunity for new members to come out and see what Redwood Region is about. I always meet someone new and interesting along with seeing the beautiful cars.

Our longest running sponsor, Hi-Tec Automotive, hosted the Los Angeles Region of PCA on their return from a tour to Napa and generously invited a few of us to join. It is always interesting to meet members from other regions. Thank you Devin, Greg and Thorsten for the hospitality and continued support. Watch for some future details of an event for Redwood at their facility.

Last weekend I went to the Collector’s Museum after cars and coffee. This was an unexpected and delightful mix of cars, antiques and memorabilia. I think we all enjoyed the “walk down memory lane.” Thank you, Paige Gaines, for arranging the experience and to Sheldon for sharing his collection with us.

We have some great events coming up. Hope to see you at an event soon

Vice President's Message

Pat Burke

Vice-President

Hello Redwood Region Members,

March is here, and our calendar is already packed with exciting events! We kicked off the year with a hugely successful Run for the Crab at the Marin Yacht Club, where over 50 Porsches and 100 members enjoyed a fantastic day of driving and fresh crab. It remains our most popular event, and this year was no exception!

Looking ahead, we have some incredible events lined up:

April 9 – Charity Adventure to the Food Bank A one-hour driving tour leads us to a rewarding three-hour volunteer shift at the Redwood Empire Food Bank, followed by a hosted lunch (we cover the food, you buy the drinks) at Barley & Bine Beer Café—a well-earned treat for your hard work!

March 23 – Porsche Owners Sunday Social Event (POSSE)

Held every 4th Sunday from 8–10 AM at Vintage Oaks in Novato, this is the perfect chance to grab coffee, swap stories, and connect with fellow Porsche enthusiasts. I try to attend every month and hope to see you there!

June 21 – Porsches on the Plaza

One of our signature events—stay tuned for details!

Late June – Poker Rally Driving Tour

A fun, themed drive in the works—more info coming soon!

September – Ironstone Concours Weekend

Our annual weekend trip to Murphys for scenic drives, camaraderie, and the stunning Concours d’Elegance at Ironstone Winery. (See more below from Jeff)

December 6 – Annual Holiday Party

Mark your calendars! We’re returning to the Marin Yacht Club for another unforgettable celebration to close out the year.

Be sure to check our event calendar and register as events go live! We’d love to have you join us.

As always, I’m honored to serve as your Vice President and look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event. If we haven’t met yet, please introduce yourself—I’d love to connect!

Feel free to reach out anytime at email. I look forward to hearing from you!

See you on the road!

Upcoming Events

Uncle Ferry wants you to join the P.O.S.S.E!

March 23, 8 am to 10 am.

What’s this, you ask?

It’s the Porsche Owners Sunday Social Event…

Who’s invited?

Any Porsche owner or driver, regardless of the model they have.

When is it?

Every fourth Sunday of the month from 8 am to 10 am.

Where is it?

In front of Starbucks, at the familiar Vintage Oaks Shopping Center, in Novato.

How much will it cost?

Nothing, nada, zip, zero.

Why is this happening?

It’s an opportunity for Porsche owners to have an informal get-together, at a North Bay location, before going to brunch, heading to the hills, cruising to the coast… or, wherever one wishes to drive that day. It’s a chance to meet and talk to your fellow Porsche owners. It’s a chance to put names and faces with the cars. It’s a chance to show off your ride!

See you there!

4th Annual Ironstone Concours Weekend in Murphys

Tour Leader

Jeff Hall

Join Us for the 4th Annual Ironstone Concours Weekend in Murphys, CA – September 25–28!

Back by popular demand, this highly anticipated event features stunning drives through Calaveras County, the famous antique (pre-1920) car race, a BBQ dinner, and a lunch hosted by renowned PCA artist Kelly Telfer—all leading up to the main attraction, the Concours d’Elegance at the picturesque Ironstone Winery.

Our group stays at the Victoria Inn in downtown Murphys, where rooms are notoriously hard to come by. However, we have a limited number of rooms available. DO NOT call the Victoria Inn directly—if you're interested, email Jeff Hall as soon as possible to secure your spot.

You're also welcome to arrange your own accommodations in Murphys or Angel’s Camp, where additional lodging options are available.

Stay tuned—registration for this incredible weekend opens this summer!

The clocks have sprung forward, so it must be time for Round IV of “Work a Bunch & Earn Your Lunch”, when I hope you will join me and a group of 20 or so of your fellow Redwood Region

members to volunteer at the Redwood Empire Food Bank! The date is Wednesday April 9th and registration is now open until April 2nd. We’ll repeat our combination of a short (and optional)

one hour driving tour, a 3-hour volunteer shift at the Food Bank, and then hosted lunch. This spring’s driving tour will be in the opposite direction of the route we have driven before.

The work in the state-of-the-art warehouse in Windsor creates meals for Sonoma, Lake, and

Mendocino County families who suffer from food insecurity. We always enjoy ourselves at the

warehouse and the work is so satisfying. If you haven’t been, we welcome you with open arms!

At the Barley & Bine Beer Café in Windsor after our shift the club will pay for your lunch item;

you just pay for your beverage of choice. We are hoping to field a team of 18. Just register on

MSR and if you or your companion volunteer need to set up a personalized volunteer account

at the food bank, I will guide you through it. Let me know if you have any difficulty or any

questions.

Hope to see you Wednesday April 9th!

Membership Reports and Information

Brad Williams

Membership Director

Welcome, new members!

It has been a fantastic start to the 2025 Porsche year. Our annual Run for the Crab was a great success, with perfect driving weather and plenty of crab to go around.

The Motor Social events at Strawberry Village in Mill Valley -- co-hosted by Porsche Marin -- are off to a strong start. These monthly gatherings are a great opportunity to connect with fellow Porsche enthusiasts, as well as owners of other marques.

Don’t forget about Porsche Owners Sunday Social Event (P.O.S.S.E.) -- a Porsche-only Cars & Coffee held on the fourth Sunday of every month. It's a perfect event for new members to casually meet others, admire a lineup of Porsches, and talk all things automotive. Join us March 23 at 8 am at Vintage Oaks Shopping Center in Novato (in front of Starbucks).

The Redwood Region is an active community with something for everyone, and we encourage you to get involved. This newsletter is a great way to stay updated on upcoming events and recaps of past gatherings. You can also find event details on our website.

In February, our region had 1,143 active members/co-members, 9 active associate members and 9 active test drive members. We also celebrated 39 PCA anniversaries, including Darnell Walton's 57th anniversary -- congratulations, Darnell! If you spot a 1972 914 cruising around Lake County, be sure to wave.

Autocross

Stacy O'Connell

Autocross Director

Registration is open for our April 6 autocross at Thunderhill! I won't sugarcoat it—it's a bit of a trek, but it's always a fantastic weekend with our friends from the Sacramento Valley Region (the next joint weekend with them is October 19). If you haven’t made the trip before, it’s well worth it for the great competition, camaraderie, and the expansive 6-acre asphalt skid pad we get to run on.

Want to autocross closer to home? The ESCA (Empire Sports Car Association) autocross series at the Sonoma Fairgrounds offers a fantastic option. Several Redwood members participate, and the ESCA team is incredibly welcoming. Their courses strike the perfect balance between fun and challenging.

ESCA has eight events scheduled for 2025, with the first coming up this month on the 22nd. Come out to one of their well-run, local events for some friendly competition and discover how you'd do on a cone-guided course. Email me or ESCA Autocross chair Craig for more details if you're interested in driving your car the way it wants to be driven!

And no worries if you're new to autocross or just a little rusty - both locations provide Instructors to show you the ropes and ensure you stay safe and have a blast.

Hope to see you out there this season—whether it’s at Thunderhill, Sonoma, or both!

Porsche Marin will be sponsoring a Redwood Region event in the next few months – date TBD so keep your eyes on the event calendar and your email box.

Porsche Marin has been co-sponsoring the Marin Motor Social on the 2nd Saturday of every month since last Fall. It has grown in popularity from 10 cars to 100. Seeing is believing -- last month the event featured a beautiful Singer Design parked next to a Carrera GT! When was the last time you saw those two in the same room? Come for the coffee and munchies and stay for the cars! Be sure to ask for the PCA discount on parts and service when you visit the dealership!

2025 Run for the Crab Tour and Lunch

Pat Burke & Jeff Hall

The sun poked through the clouds on February 15th for Redwood Region’s Annual Run for the Crab! Fifty-six perfectly polished Porsches positioned at Vintage Oaks Mall to welcome the glorious and sunny day… It took three driver’s meetings to manage the large crowd before the start of the Tour! Porschephiles of all ages joined the party!

Alex Sill and his grandson, Chase Kronenthal, arriving in

Alex’S 2002 911 996 Cabriolet Carrera

The event would not have been nearly as successful as it was without the help of many

volunteers to welcome members, direct them to their Run Groups and send them off on the day's adventure.

Joe Burroughs points Essy and Rosa Fariab, in their beautiful Peridot Green

2012 Cayman R, to their respective Run Group

At the stroke of 10 am, Group One took to the road followed by Groups Two and Three as they embarked on the 53-mile jaunt through Marin County. We traveled some of Western Marin’s finest (and freshly paved) roads. The ups and downs and twists and turns put smiles on every member’s face as we tumbled toward Point Reyes Station for a quick ‘pit stop.’

All lined up through the beautiful Northern California countryside

All three groups arrived in quick succession at the destination (can’t wait for that fresh

crab!).

Nothing goes together like yachts and Porsches!

Once each group arrived at the Marin Yacht Club, they were treated to a fabulous lunch buffet prepared by the club’s Chef Nick and his team in the kitchen. Our members were offered a selection of pasta with several sauces and a beautiful Caesar salad. Once at their table, platters of fresh Dungeness cracked crab were served to the table. This all-you-could-eat feast was never ending and over 200 pounds were consumed and enjoyed by almost 100 of our Redwood Members!

Tracey, from Marin Yacht Club’s excellent staff,

ensuring the endless flow of crab…

There was also a special surprise to be had at each table, Bruce Mooers, a longtime member of the Redwood Region, donated 12 bottles of Far Niente Chardonnay which were given away as door prizes. Thank you, Bruce!

Pat Burke, Redwood Region Vice President, and his wife Katherine Zimmer

Run for the Crab is our Region’s most popular event of the year! A huge thank you to Osprey Seafoods and its owner, Mike Weinberg-Lynn, for once again providing the freshest crab around. We also appreciate the Marin Yacht Club for hosting us at their fantastic venue.

We already can’t wait till next year!

Check out more "RUN for the CRAB" photos!

Collector's Museum Visit

Paige Gaines

And, now for something completely different…

to borrow the old Monty Python line.

As our group gathered outside the museum, the first thing we observed was Sheldon’s beautiful McLaren 720S with its purple and yellow, Los Angeles Lakers colors…

very appropriate considering its previous owner.

Sheldon Doing is the owner, collector and docent for the Collector’s Museum in San Rafael. He started the museum at this location in 1989 and was gracious enough to invite the Redwood Region to come for a visit to see a lifetime’s worth of those collectibles.

Examples of the vehicles on hand included a 1906 Holsman, a 1911 Renault, a 1912 Fiat, a 1915 Baker Electric, a 1921 Locomobile and continued in time through the 1950s  up to a DeLorean from the early 80s. Plus, just for good measure, there was the life sized Hot Wheels known as “Splittinimage”.

Highlights of the collectibles included a video jukebox from 1940, a mechanical orchestra from about the same period, a calliope, kewpie dolls, Ed “Big Daddy” Roth original art, vintage advertisements, Big Boy Bob, Ronald McDonald, Pac-Man, pedal cars, and a display case full of “unsafe toys”… the list went on and on!

A personal favorite was a boxed, “My First Fire” for ages 2+.

Whether it was the horseless carriages, the brass age cars, the motorcycles or reliving your childhood, the afternoon visit was a blast!

Safety Report

Craig Steele

Safety Director

Our Run for the Crab event was a great success! I helped coordinate 58 Porsche drivers on a scenic 53-mile route from Novato’s Vintage Oaks to the Marin Yacht Club. We divided into three run groups of 19 cars each, and the drive took approximately two hours.

Safety is always a top priority, and I'm pleased to report that the event ran smoothly and incident-free. Our LEADs MIDs, and SWEEPs did an excellent job, and their post-drive insights were invaluable. Our GMRS radios worked flawlessly, keeping communication clear and ensuring everything stayed well-coordinated -- proving the radios to be a worthwhile Club investment. In fact, they were used so much, it took five hours to fully recharge the batteries!

EVER DRIVE YOUR PORSCHE ACROSS AMERICA?

This is the mid-point of Route 66 (1139 miles) from

Chicago or Santa Monica Pier at Adrian TX.

Craig Steele

I have attended nine Porsche Parades since the summer of 2014, and my first experience with a long-distance PCA tour event was a Parade. In 2021, I won the PCA Parade Long Distance Award for driving 2,293 miles to French Lick, Indiana—earning a set of Michelin tires in the process.

This summer, I’m planning a solo drive from my home in Santa Rosa to Oklahoma City, OK, from July 1-5, and I’m inviting interested drivers and navigators to join me. We'll meet at Victorville’s California Route 66 Museum on July 1 at 9 am and follow the historic Route 66 (I-40) all the way to the 2025 Porsche Parade in Oklahoma City (July 6-12).

The route covers approximately 1,725 miles and takes about 26 driving hours. I plan to take five days, staying overnight in Kingman, AZ; Holbrook, AZ; Albuquerque, NM; and Amarillo, TX while exploring Route 66 sights along the way. We’ll arrive in Oklahoma City on July 5 (I’m registered a day early at the OKC Courtyard).

If you'd like to join me on this Route 66 journey, email me. I’ll share my planned routes, queue sheets, and recommendations for additional stops. Please note: This is not a Redwood Region-sponsored event, so it will not be covered by PCA insurance. However, I’ll help keep the group together using radio communication and cell phones.

After Parade, I’ll be returning along the same route but adding stops in Santa Fe, Las Vegas, and South Lake Tahoe before heading back to Santa Rosa. You might also want to extend your trip to visit incredible Southwest destinations like the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Monument Valley, or Bryce Canyon.

Hope to hear from you!
