2018-19 Theme Verse:
Follow God
Our theme verse for 2018-19, in which Jesus declares His divinity, is John 8:12, “… I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”  Jesus is in effect saying, “I am the light of life, God’s shekinah glory”.  Light is often used in Scripture as a metaphor for holiness, such as in the opening line of Psalm 27:1, “The Lord is my light and my salvation”.  Jesus does not say that He is a light, or another light, but that He is “the light” and as the light Jesus is illuminating the truth, revealing God Himself to us.  To Follow God means to never walk in darkness.  Death brings eternal darkness but to follow God means to never walk in darkness but to have the light of life.  When we follow Jesus, having accepted Him as our Lord and Savior, we walk in His light.  We no longer walk blindly in our sin.  Rather His light shows us our need for forgiveness, guides us along life’s pathway, and leads us into eternal life with Him.  Jesus, the son of God, is the light that will guide us as a school this year.
