Follow God
As a kid, I enjoyed playing Follow the Leader or Simon Says. Following is fun when it could result in winning a game or when we know we would be lost without it. It is much harder to follow when we actually want to go another way. Jesus said, “…if anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” Denying ourselves is a requirement of following Jesus; it is actually how we follow Him. The old self loves recognition, comfort, immediate gratification, and life itself more than it loves Jesus. The new self recognizes that there is more joy in following Jesus, even with the suffering, than there is in walking our own way. “Deny the old, comfort-craving self and embrace the superior joy of knowing Jesus, no matter how high the cost on this earth.” – John Piper,
Desiring God

From Mrs. Bibby: "Students had a blast at Outdoor Ed last week. They were able to learn under the stars and explore His creation. The devotion time was sweet and so was the worship." From Mr. Gillette: "Forty-four 6th Graders got to learn about God's creation during Outdoor Education at Mount Gilead last week."

Students had fun learning about the attributes of geometric figures like trapezoids, hexagons, parallelograms, squares, rectangles, and squares. Students used their reason and understanding of these shapes to cover designs on a worksheet. They also learned that there was more than one way to use the geometric figures to cover the design.

Operation Christmas Child chapel: each kindergartner had a chance to come on stage with the teacher and tell the audience if a particular gift would be suitable for a Christmas shoe box and why (or why not). Great job, KM!

We worked on hopscotch this week and the students had fun creating their own patterns with the equipment. Also, some of them took what they learned and chose to play hopscotch outside at recess, which always puts a smile on a PE teacher's face!

Jingles in 3V! In Bible, 3V talked about how to grow more like Christ by serving others, relying on prayer, obeying the Holy Spirit, and wisely reading our Bibles. During the discussions, students created "jingles" to share their answer! Love the critical and creative thinking!

From Coach Geronimo: "Sara had a great match against Bentley. She lost her first set 4-6, but she scratched and fought to win the second set and forced a tie breaker for the third set. She was determined on winning the tie breaker and she played like it! She overcame the first set lost and won the match by outsmarting her player in sets two and three. She really applied our game plan which we discussed before the start of the second set and was successful. Very nice effort on Sara’s part!"

TODAY!!!
In preparation for the SAT exam, all students grades 8-11 took the PSAT test. The results from this test help set the course for SAT preparations for our students, especially as they move towards their junior year. At the end of the calendar year scores are released and info will be sent home (most likely after Christmas break). In addition, 9-11th grade students (who are not new to RCS this school year) will be able to see their results online on their College Board account. Students in 8th grade or new to RCS, will also receive their unique College Board account ID to set up their account, with instructions to follow asap. Furthermore, the results for all test takers will come with an individualized Khan academy plan to further help prepare for the SAT.
All this and more information will be sent home during the third quarter.
