Faith in Yorkshire is getting a huge boost with £3.9 million being invested in two new Church of England projects in Leeds and Bradford city centres.
|

A new-style church to suit the needs of city workers will soon open for business at
Holy Trinity, Boar Lane, Leeds
(pictured above) thanks to an £800,000 Church of England grant.
|
|
And a brand new Anglican church backed by £3.1 million is set to open in a former nightspot in
Bradford’s City Park

Bishop Helen-Ann Hartley of Ripon and Bishop Tony Robinson of Wakefield joined Roman Catholic bishops of England and Wales and Church of England bishop
s in Leicester from January 16 to 17 for their biennial conference. Together 27 Anglican and 27 Roman Catholic bishops explored a diverse range of subjects including opportunities for closer collaboration at a regional and national level.

Youth leaders, clergy and young people from across Leeds and Bradford gathered for the launch of the Higher Tour in Yorkshire. Hosted by Pudsey Parish Church, the evening shared the exciting vision of Higher Yorkshire 2019, which will be bringing youth and schools mission to Leeds, Bradford and the surrounding areas.

Torn From Home is the chosen theme for events to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2019, which will take place across the diocese on Sunday, January 27. The atrocities carried out against Jewish people during the Second World War and also more recent genocides in the countries of Rwanda, Burundi, Cambodia, Bosnia and Sudan will be remembered at many church and civic services.

Seven new members were admitted into the Mothers' Union for the Diocese of Leeds on Saturday 19 January at Ripon Cathedral. During a special service led by Bishop Nick Baines, trustees and officers of the Mothers' Union were commissioned to serve for the next three years. The Rt Revd Dr Helen-Ann Hartley, Bishop of Ripon who became one of the new members of the Mothers' Union, also delivered an address which encourage
d all to “Listen, observe and act in step with God.”

20 pupils from Low Moor C of E Primary School have become the
first graduates of an exciting ‘Active Leader’ project
. The ceremony, hosted at Richard Dunn Sports Centre, was attended by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Zafar Ali, who presented children with certificates and badges in recognition of their achievements.

Bright young stars from the world of brass bands will blast out their musical skills at Halifax Minster next month. The
Halifax Youth Brass Band Festival
takes place on Saturday afternoon, February 9 from 2pm to 7pm.

A national organisation which supports struggling farmers has appointed Bishop Helen-Ann as one of its trustees
. The Farming Community Network (FCN) is a volunta
ry organisation and charity founded on Christian values that helps farmers and their families through difficult ti
mes. FCN is a network of over 350 volunteers, many of whom are involved in farming, or have close links with agriculture and therefore have a great understanding of the issues farmers face.

Honorary Assistant Bishop Colin Buchanan will be delivering a Ecclesiastical Law Society lecture, 'The Transferable Vote – a Hundred Years of Anglican Experience’, marking the centenary of the Church Assembly, which in 1970 became the General Synod. The event takes place at Church House, Leeds and starts with refreshments at 5pm.
