Faith in Yorkshire is getting a huge boost with £3.9 million being invested in two new Church of England projects in Leeds and Bradford city centres.
A new-style church to suit the needs of city workers will soon open for business at Holy Trinity, Boar Lane, Leeds (pictured above) thanks to an £800,000 Church of England grant.
And a brand new Anglican church backed by £3.1 million is set to open in a former nightspot in Bradford’s City Park (Bishop Toby is pictured with, from left, new church assistant leader Nathanael Poole and baby daughter Ivy, its leader Linda Maslen, Nathanael's wife, Lauren and Archdeacon of Bradford Andy Jolley).

Bishop Helen-Ann Hartley of Ripon and Bishop Tony Robinson of Wakefield joined Roman Catholic bishops of England and Wales and Church of England bishop s in Leicester from January 16 to 17 for their biennial conference. Together 27 Anglican and 27 Roman Catholic bishops explored a diverse range of subjects including opportunities for closer collaboration at a regional and national level. Read more here
Youth leaders, clergy and young people from across Leeds and Bradford gathered for the launch of the Higher Tour in Yorkshire. Hosted by Pudsey Parish Church, the evening shared the exciting vision of Higher Yorkshire 2019, which will be bringing youth and schools mission to Leeds, Bradford and the surrounding areas.   Read more here
Torn From Home is the chosen theme for events to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2019, which will take place across the diocese on Sunday, January 27. The atrocities carried out against Jewish people during the Second World War and also more recent genocides in the countries of Rwanda, Burundi, Cambodia, Bosnia and Sudan will be remembered at many church and civic services.   Read more about some of the events here
Seven new members were admitted into the Mothers' Union for the Diocese of Leeds on Saturday 19 January at Ripon Cathedral. During a special service led by Bishop Nick Baines, trustees and officers of the Mothers' Union were commissioned to serve for the next three years. The Rt Revd Dr Helen-Ann Hartley, Bishop of Ripon who became one of the new members of the Mothers' Union, also delivered an address which encourage d all to “Listen, observe and act in step with God.” Read more here
Around the Areas
20 pupils from Low Moor C of E Primary School have become the first graduates of an exciting ‘Active Leader’ project . The ceremony, hosted at Richard Dunn Sports Centre, was attended by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Zafar Ali, who presented children with certificates and badges in recognition of their achievements. Bright young stars from the world of brass bands will blast out their musical skills at Halifax Minster next month. The Halifax Youth Brass Band Festival takes place on Saturday afternoon, February 9 from 2pm to 7pm. Read more here
The current cold, winter weather is making many look forward to later months, when the diocese will spring back into life. One such place is St Mary's Church in Swillington who are inviting their local community to a Snowdrop Festival taking place on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th February. Read more here
A national organisation which supports struggling farmers has appointed Bishop Helen-Ann as one of its trustees . The Farming Community Network (FCN) is a volunta ry organisation and charity founded on Christian values that helps farmers and their families through difficult ti mes. FCN is a network of over 350 volunteers, many of whom are involved in farming, or have close links with agriculture and therefore have a great understanding of the issues farmers face. Read more here
Aspects of identity and community are high on the agenda at the diocese’s Wakefield Cathedral this Spring , which has announced a trio of key events open to all. “Who am I? Who are we? Talking About The E Word at St Peter's Gildersome on, Thursday, March 28 will be evangelists, Sophie Jelley from Durham Cathedral and author and vicar, Matt Woodcock, sharing ideas and good practice. The day is open to all clergy and lay people who want to engage with those outside the church. The day runs from 10am to 3.15pm, the day will include lunch. Former Ripon vicar turned bishop, Mark Tanner, is to lead a weekend for men from across the Yorkshire Dales early next year. Bishop Mark, who is now the Bishop Berwick in the Di ocese of Newcastle, but was the Vicar of Holy Trinity Church, Ripon will speak at a ' Men of the Dales ' weekend from February 1-3 Find out more here
On  Wednesday, February 6  Honorary Assistant Bishop Colin Buchanan will be delivering a Ecclesiastical Law Society lecture, 'The Transferable Vote – a Hundred Years of Anglican Experience’, marking the centenary of the Church Assembly, which in 1970 became the General Synod. The event takes place at Church House, Leeds and starts with refreshments at 5pm.
Spring Harvest , the national teaching and worship conference returns for a second year to Harrogate from April 13 to 17. This year the conference will celebrate its 40th birthday, and as well as offering inspirational teaching and worship, there are extensive children and youth activities. Find out more here
Every parish is encouraged to have a disability representative . An important training day on Saturday, January 26 outlines the role of the disability rep and explains the support and information available. The event takes place in Huddersfield, and is open to all. Future training events are being planned in other parts of the diocese.  Find out more here

The free monthly printed news for February was delivered around the diocese on January 18 -   check pick-up points and where your church's are here. This month, the launch of Bradford Cathedral's centenary year, record numbers for the Boxing day Pilgrimage, a new Rector of Bolton Abbey and an invitation to Germany.
New Life Publishing produces a number of Christian publications, including a monthly newspaper and a quarterly magazine called Heroes of Faith, each with a monthly readership of thousands of people across the country. If your church would like to include an advert in one of their publications then visit their website. 
A team of Christian Graphic Designers have produced an online resource called GOOD. GOOD offers off-the-shelf and customisable church publicity including posters, flyers, bookmarks, banners and other downloadable resources. Holy Trinity Boar Lane, located in the centre of Leeds has successfully secured funding to go towards a new week-day church, that will be formed for those who work in the city. Here is a short video, sharing the thoughts of those involved in this exciting project. Watch the video here
Bishop of Bradford, Toby Howarth, introduces the new Resource Church in Bradford’s City Park. It will be a friendly Christian worship centre that will reach out and embrace the whole community – welcoming the large resident student and business population in particular, alongsid e those who call the city centre their home. A centenary prayer read by the Rt. Revd Nick Baines, Bishop of Leeds, on Sunday 6th January 2019 at Bradford Cathedral. This prayer was read as part of a day of events that celebrated the Epiphany and launched the C athedral's Centenary Year in 2019. Watch the video here.
