Poignant services of Remembrance took place at churches across our diocese last weekend, to remember those lost to war and conflict. Acts of Remembrance were held at
war memorials alongside services in church, with the participation of uniformed services including the Army and Air Cadets.

An invitation to wonder and excitement is held in the Church of England’s Advent campaign for 2019. After popular demand, the Follow the Star campaign is returning this year with 12 brand-new reflections for the Christmas period.

A service in former East Germany to mark the fall of the Berlin Wall was attended by Bishop of Huddersfield, the Rt Revd Jonathan Gibbs, who preached in German to some 10,000 people. Speaking in the town of Erfurt, Bishop Jonathan took greetings from the diocese and spoke of the joy felt when the East-West barrier came down.

A unique celebration of religious friendship has been held at Bradford Cathedral to mark the 550th anniversary of the birth of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. Christians and Sikhs from across our region joined in song and prayer and heard a powerful address by Lord Inderjit Singh of Wimbledon.

Scores of stone flags have been stolen in brazen thefts on two churches in the same Huddersfield Area parish. The Rector of Kirkheaton, Revd Ian Jones said the latest loss of slabs on the path outside Kirkheaton Parish Church was an "affront to the whole community".

A guided tour of the Chapel of St Peter and St Paul in Greenwich with Michael Palin OBE and tea and cake at a top London restaurant with Bill Bryson OBE are just some of the ‘money-can’t-buy’ lots going under the hammer in the National Churches Trust’s new ‘Save our Churches’ online auction, raising funds to help pay for urgent repairs to the nation’s churches.

Housing conference to engage with new communities now in June 2020
|
Christians will be coming together to discuss how best to respond to new housing developments in their neighbourhoods at a conference which will now be taking place in June 2020. The New Housing Hub Conference will still be taking place at Moortown Baptist Church in Leeds and the reorganised date will be publicised shortly.

Strong support for St Andrew’s Church, Kildwick has been voiced by parishioners at well-attended gatherings to discuss its future. Two public meetings, each attended by more than 40 people, clearly laid out the current status of the church, and called for fresh community efforts to revitalise the building.

A thought-provoking exhibition hosted at Halifax Minster has recently been opened by the Anne Frank Trust UK. Anne Frank: A History for Today was launched at the Minster’s Remembrance Day Service. The popular exhibition captures the experience of Anne Frank's life.

Mothers’ Unions from across the Province of York have been celebrating a recent visit by the Worldwide President of Mothers’ Union to the north. Mrs Sheran Harper from Guyana, the first Worldwide President of Mothers’ Union from outside the UK, was in the York Province from November 4 - 8.

Important projects run by a church in Wakefield need support as they look to raise funds to buy a new minibus. St Catherine’s Church Centre Wakefield have recently discovered their oldest bus is no longer roadworthy, and are appealing to the public to give generously so they can buy a new one
.

before or after birth at St James Hospital or at LGI will be taking place on Saturday, November 30 at St George's Church, Leeds. Starting at 2pm, it will be followed by refreshments. Presidential address to synod

Watch the presidential address from Diocesan Synod in October. Urgent political business in Westminster meant that Bishop Nick Baines was absent from the Diocesan Synod, meaning his address was read out on his behalf by the Bishop of Kirkstall, The Rt Revd Paul Slater.
