Gains in the Education of Mathematics and Science (GEMS) program
The Gains in the Education of Mathematics and Science (GEMS) program invites middle and high school students to work with college-aged mentors in a week-long, virtual, or hybrid learning session. Participants gain a hands-on learning experience and exposure to the diversity of STEM fields and careers. Both sessions are available in real-time (10 am-3 pm EST) or self-paced formats.
GEMS is an Army-sponsored, summer STEM enrichment program for middle and high school students that takes place in participating Army research laboratories and engineering centers. GEMS’ mission is to interest young people in STEM careers early enough that they have the time to prepare for their academic futures.
Students can apply for a one-week session during the summer in our biomedical program or engineering program at no cost. Middle and high school student can participate in our program at the following levels:
* Beginning (rising 7th-8th)
* Intermediate (rising 9th-10th)
* Advanced (rising 11th-12th)
* We will talk more about this opportunity at the HBCU Pathways Meeting on Saturday, May 8th.
