Our basket is filled with turquoise! What a great color!

It’s the color of precious stones in Navajo jewelry. It’s the color of lakes with sparkling waves dancing in sunlit blue green swirls. 

We are taking a freebie download pattern, the Lars blanket, and configuring it into a shawl — one that will be a snuggly wrap for a cool summer evening.

We did the math and changed the design from a 36" x 36" blanket to a shawl approximately 16" wide by 60" long.

Here's how to get started

You will need the FREE Ravelry download pattern,

Lars Blanket

and 6-7 skeins of

HiKoo Simplicity

Cast on five pattern repeats (15 sts x 5 = 75) and add 3 stitches on each side. So cast on 75 + 6 -- 81 stitches for our modified shawl. We used cable cast on and a 32" circular needle in US #7.

We knit 3 garter ridges and then began the 10 row pattern as shown in the FREE download.

We chose Color 010 Deep Turquoise for our Summer Waves Shawl, but take a look at all the color choices in HiKoo Simplicity.

We did the math. Six skeins of HiKoo Simplicity, a washable blend of merino superwash, acrylic, and nylon, will knit up into a shawl that's approximately 16 x 60 inches, but order an extra if you think you might need it.

++ Whether you are a lace knitter who follows a chart or a pattern knitter who goes row by row, this shawl will be great pickup knitting for that time of day when you need a break.

++ We swatched in several colors using different sizes of needles and finally settle on a US #7 (4.5 mm) needle for the project.

++ The ten row lace stitch pattern is easy to remember. 

• Four rows of "watch the chart.”
• Six rows six of knit every stitch.
