Hello Marion,

Imagine this scenario: you're excited to try out a new recipe, but the instructions are unclear and confusing. Anyone who spends time in the kitchen knows that having clear and precise directions is essential for a successful cooking experience. Without proper guidance, there's a risk of kitchen disasters, such as overcooking dishes or not having all the necessary ingredients. Estate planning can evoke a similar feeling of uncertainty. However, while unclear cooking instructions may only lead to minor inconveniences, vague estate planning can have more significant consequences. Without clear instructions, your loved ones may face significant emotional stress and uncertainty.

So, how can you help your chances of success in both the kitchen and estate planning? By emphasizing clarity and precision in every step. To ensure your wishes are carried out as intended, it is essential to establish estate documents and have open discussions with those responsible for executing them.

We understand that discussing estate planning can be challenging. However, an effective estate planning discussion gives you the opportunity to explain your decision-making process and how it connects to your values. It also helps ensure your executors have a better understanding of what is to come after your passing.

If you have not yet established your estate plan, we strongly encourage you to contact your attorney to begin the process. Their expertise is invaluable in navigating the complexities of estate planning and ensuring your wishes are legally documented. We are here to help you understand how your plan integrates with your portfolio and legacy goals. Remember, communication is key—have those important conversations now before it's too late!

What's In Your Estate Plan?

This article can help you take the guesswork out of what your estate strategy needs.

FSA Volunteer Day

This year, we had the wonderful opportunity to spend a morning volunteering with Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence (SPAN) in Boulder. SPAN does incredible work providing support and services to individuals impacted by domestic or dating violence. They offer healing, hope, and resources for those in need. During our time at SPAN, we pitched in by sorting clothing donations, reorganizing storage areas, and tidying up the donation station. It was a rewarding experience to contribute to our local community through the impactful work of SPAN, and we're grateful to have been able to share this experience with some of you!

We recommend looking for volunteer opportunities with an organization near you. You can find opportunities by clicking on the VolunteerMatch logo below. If you've participated in any volunteer work, we encourage you to share your stories and pictures with us by sending them to financial.steward@lpl.com! Let's make a difference together!

Estate Planning Tips for Blended Families

Every family is a little different, and that’s what makes families so beautiful! One common family structure is the blended family, which is a family that includes a couple and their children from previous relationships. It’s important to recognize blended families when it comes to financial planning. According to the Love to Know website, 40 percent of families in the US are blended, with at least one partner having a child from a previous relationship.1

There’s no one-size-fits-all family, just as there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to estate planning. To learn more about what estate planning might look like for a blended family, click on the button below.
