When we transitioned to BYS Yoga Collective (one year ago!), we spent considerable time brainstorming new names for the studio. Of course we wanted to maintain the essence of BYS Yoga (which you may remember was once called Breathe, but who’s keeping track?). On paper, though, we had to be something different. We tossed around many names — some not-so-serious options, such as Tangerine Buddha and others like Third Floor Yoga or Third Space Yoga.
We landed on BYS Yoga Collective, of course, because “collective” most accurately describes what it is that we do in our space. As a collective, or “a cooperative enterprise,” we’re a group of teachers working together to make yoga accessible to the community. Our community. Our
As I reflect on the last year, I am humbled by the challenges we’ve faced but also hopeful for the future. I am grateful for our teachers, the teachers who wash blankets and sweep floors and teach thoughtful classes. And I am tickled by the support of our students, the students who show up and remind us why we do what we do.
