5 Things the Chamber Did For You Last Week
  1. The Business Advocacy Committee met with Oxnard City Attorney Stephen Fischer to review the five ballot measures on City Council term limits, city meeting regulations, city treasurer responsibilities, road repair funding and the permitting system.
  2. Chamber CEO Nancy Lindholm attended Oxnard City Council's Housing and Economic Development Committee meeting to comment on a proposed short term vacation rentals ordinance.
  3. OXYP – Oxnard Young Professionals hosted its monthly meeting, which included a discussion about new OXYP leadership positions for events, social media and community outreach.
  4. The Military Appreciation Committee met to continue planning the Military Mixer in August and the Military Appreciation Dinner in September.
  5. Ventura County District Attorney Investigator Kimo Hildreth shared tips to protect your company from hackers at our Knowledge & Networking Lunch.

Renewed talk about sales tax on services raises concerns for California business
Governor Gavin Newsom signed the state budget with a $21 billion surplus, but expressed his support for a new sales tax on services in California. Although details are sparse, any new tax on services would affect not just businesses, but consumers, who already pay a sales tax.
