A BIG THANK YOU!!!
At HOPE, we want to thank all of you who gave on AZ Gives Day. This year over 40,000 Arizonans gave over 7 million to their favorite charities and HOPE was happy to be one of those charities!

DOG OF THE MONTH
KEVIN
graphic-heart.gif
This is 7 month old Kevin. When Kevin came to us from a hoard in Maricopa County we noticed there was something different about him. This sweet boy has a condition known as Congenital Hydrocephalus aka "water on the brain". We had Kevin examined by a neurologist who did an ultrasound and confirmed the diagnosis. Since Kevin is just a pup he put him on an over-the-counter medication known to decrease the production of fluids in the brain. Unfortunately, there is no cure. Right now Kevin is like every other puppy. He plays, he cuddles, he loves people, dogs and cats. He may never be housetrained but he does use puppy pads. But his future is uncertain. He could start having any one of the symptoms noted in the above link and we do know he will have a shorter life span. Do you have the love in your heart to give this boy a forever home for as long as ever may be?

CAT OF THE MONTH
ADAM

This handsome devil was left in a carrier outside the shelter. He was so stressed from the experience he developed a very severe upper respiratory infection and stopped eating. After a trip to the vet and weeks on medication
Adam turned the corner and started eating. Adam is around 7 years old, tolerates other cats and loves people. Here he is relaxing on our catio. Give Adam a chance to show you he's overcome his past.

A Few Words from our Executive Director-Susan Scherl
Happy Spring! Once again, thank you to all who donated on AZ Gives Day. We raised over $15,000 towards the care of our cats and dogs. It's comforting to know that despite what all of us have been through this year your generosity has not abated. We continue to make improvements to the living conditions of our animals and could use your help. We are looking for someone to install shelving (see link for ideas) in the cat rooms. Believe it or not, due to monetary issues, we still have not replaced what we lost in the 2018 flood. We are not raising our barn but dismantling it to use the materials in our dog environments. Let us know if you can donate some labor to the process. Check out our local business partners below.
I am happy to announce that Hunter Gillenkirk has been promoted to Shelter Director. Hunter came to HOPE 3 years ago and has proven time and again that he is worthy of this position. His passion and compassion for the animals in our care is evident everyday in everything he does. You can reach Hunter by clicking on his name.
