If you are here, it means that you have supported Acquire in some way and for you, we are eternally grateful!
When restaurants shut down in March 2020, I found myself at home with my two young boys full time. Hunter and Miles were almost 4 and 2, so we were BUSY. Overnight, I went from being a working mom to feeling like I was running a Bed & Breakfast for small people. In between meals, crafts and potty training, I began building my business. I require human connection. It is in my DNA. The virtual space gave me a place to connect: with friends, with strangers. I am aware now that my original business model was partially self serving. After all, you can only talk to toddlers for so long before you clinically lose your mind.
Initially, our virtual events were all about the wine and the food, but as I dug in and gained more experience in this space, I began to see the parallels to the restaurant world clear as day. When I was working in high end restaurants, I would assess each table, and modify my approach accordingly. Is it a first date? Is this a business dinner and the host is looking to impress? Are these parents that never get time alone? One of the biggest things we do well in hospitality is read our guests and intuitively deliver what they are looking for without them having to ask. The best restaurants in the world make you feel the gift of hospitality in amazing and unique ways. And, turns out, this can easily be achieved in the virtual space. Who doesn’t love to feel special, feel seen? I saw early on that this platform was an incredible tool for delivering hospitality, making us limitless, as we were no longer confined within the four walls of a physical space.
Another thing that has struck me over the past two years is the inclusivity that the virtual space brings. As a working mom, taking time for events is TOUGH. Getting a sitter, commute time, etc. made attending many of the engagements I was invited to prohibitive. We have built our model on making it easy for your attendees to say yes. They receive a gorgeous package of goodies delivered directly to their home and, under most circumstances, are simply asked for an hour of time in return. No driving, shower (or real pants) required!
We are deeply committed to the virtual space and believe wholeheartedly that this tool for efficient human connection will not disappear as Covid does. Bringing people together, whether in person, or virtually is quite simply what we DO.
