There are no major time commitments or expectations for affiliate faculty. Please fill out this brief survey by March 22, 2023, if you are interested. Feel free to contact Leah Murphy with any questions: Leah.Murphy@ucsf.edu.
Faculty members Margaret Handley and Adithya Cattamanchi co-work in Mission Hall
In 1995, Elizabeth Bukusi, MD, PhD, established KEMRI's Research Care and Treatment Program (RCTP) in collaboration with UCSF's Craig Cohen, MD. The program aims to enhance local capacity to conduct socio-behavioral and biomedical research and to provide HIV care through training and infrastructure development. RCTP has supported research into health issues including reproductive health and sexually transmitted infections, through socio-behavioral, clinical, implementation science, and bioethics approaches. From 2004-2020, Bukusi was co-PI of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/PEPFAR-funded Family AIDS Care and Education Services program based in Kenya. She recently co-led, with UCSF's LaMisha Hill, PhD, a conference aimed at making UCSF's global health partnerships more equitable (article above).
As UCSF’s international research portfolio and in-country partnerships expand, local registered offices allow UC researchers to more effective carry out their projects while complying with government and funder regulations. Global Programs currently has offices in Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda. Local staff support clinical education; research design, implementation, and administration; and data collection and analysis.
