2026

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

UPCOMING 2026 EVENT

WEAA will host its winter seminar and brunch on January 17, 2026. The seminar will be conducted by Educating Our Community (EOC), "a community‑based organization dedicated to youth and young adult development through culturally responsive programming. EOC’s work centers on five pillars—physical health, mental health, professional readiness, financial literacy, and generational wealth—to foster personal empowerment.

Program Overview: This interactive seminar is designed to support young scholars as they prepare to enter professional and networking spaces with confidence, clarity, and emotional resilience. The experience blends professional readiness training with mental health–centered strategies to help participants manage anxiety, build self-assurance, and show up authentically in rooms where relationships and opportunities are formed.”

We look forward to the opportunity to gather with scholars and board members at the seminar and brunch.

SPOTLIGHT

Sofia Papadopoulos, Class of 2027, has been named a finalist for the Circumnavigator Grant. The recipient of this prestigious award will receive $10,000 to support a self‑designed research project conducted across five countries on three continents. Final interviews will take place in January.

Sofia plans to explore “the relationship between physical traces of past conflicts (e.g., prisons, memorials, bunkers) and a nation’s collective memory.” Her proposed countries of study include Chile, Cambodia, Cyprus, Albania, and Bosnia‑Herzegovina, where she will interview experts in their respective fields.

We wish Sofia great success as she advances to the final round and pursues this research opportunity.

WEAA is always happy to hear from our current and alumnae scholars. We look forward to including you in future SPOTLIGHT articles and website postings. Contact us at weaa1871@gmail.com to provide your information.
