This Sunday's Sermon and Song List
One of the recurring themes in 1 Timothy is godliness. I wonder what images come to mind when you hear that word. For some that image might be of a straight faced puritan. For others it may be a beloved relative or mentor. Either way, 1 Timothy takes us back to the basics when it comes to godliness and this week, as we look at 1 Timothy 4:6-16, we'll see that godliness is first and foremost a reverence for God Himself. It's only by treasuring God for who He is that our lives will ever be made "godly". My prayer for Sunday will be that God's word, proclaimed faithfully, will move us all to be impressed with God in a way that directly affects our walk with Him and others.

To get yourself ready to sing on Sunday you can start listening to the songs we'll be singing together:
  • Unchanging
  • Battle Belongs
  • I Lift My Hands
  • He Will Hold Me Fast
  • My Lighthouse
We created a playlist on Youtube in case you want to start listening today. You can find that by clicking HERE.
What's On the Book Display?

Have you checked out our book display recently? Here are some of the new books available:
  • You Who? Why You Matter and How to Deal With It by Rachel Jankovic. This is probably the best book written for Christian women in the last twenty-five years. No joke. It's humorous but also full of plain, no-nonsense wisdom from God's word about Christian women finding their identity in Christ.
  • Eve In Exile by Rebekah Merkle. This is another book for women that dismantles secular feminism and secular conservative stereotypes of women to get at the real biblical picture of what God made women for. This book was also the genesis of the new documentary by the same name. TRAILER HERE.
  • Rediscover Church by Colin Hansen and Jonathan Leeman. Written for the "post-pandemic age" this book celebrates the importance of gathering weekly for worship and what makes the local church so special. As a bonus, author Colin Hansen is from Chester, SD.!
  • Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. This is Lewis' treasured defense of the Christian faith. It's a meaty but invaluable tool for not only understanding Christianity but also defending it.
Graduation Sunday!
Join us at 10:00am this Sunday, May 22nd to help celebrate our graduating seniors! Carlos Woehler, Jonathan Dodge, Madison Reisner, and Xaden Messner will all be graduating this year! We will have a card shower for them and cake will be provided.
Men's Breakfast Sunday May 28th
Men's Breakfast will be held on Saturday, May 28th at 8:00am. They will continue in the book, It's Good To Be A Man. Come hungry and ready for fellowship! If you have questions please contact Pastor Cory.

Saturday May 28th at 6:30pm

A special time of fervent prayer together as a church family. Prayer is one of the MAIN ways we fight spiritual battles in the world, our hearts and in the church. It is vital. We can't neglect it and there are great blessings and abiding peace for the body of Christ when they pray. Thanks to a generous donation from Crossway the first 50 people who attend will receive a free copy of the book "Praying the Bible" by Donald Whitney.
Disaster Relief Opportunity

We have the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus and help residents in Brookings County with disaster relief.

We will depart late afternoon Sunday May 29th and arrive back at Discovery Wednesday evening, June 1st. Anyone over the age of 14 is welcome to join us.

If you have any questions or need more details please contact the office. Amanda is happy to help!
Women's Bible Study!
Understand that works don’t save us, rather good works follow true faith as our beliefs and actions line up with each other.

James had a unique earthly relationship with Jesus, but his letter clarifies what the Christian life should look like for us all. The Book of James is filled with practical wisdom for Christians, calling us to live out genuine faith through good works, but it is also rooted in rich theology. Perhaps more than any other book in the New Testament, James emphasizes the application of Christian belief.

This 13-session study examines the core message of James: the relationship between faith and works. In our own ability, we cannot stand in the face of adversity. Without faith we could never find the strength to trust God. We would never be able to see above the trials we meet and to keep our eyes focused on the King while counting our trials as joy. This is the essence of James. We don’t work to be saved; we work because we are saved. Faith apart from works can never be sustained.

This study will be offered on Thursday mornings at 9:00am. Childcare is provided. Books are $15. If you have any questions please contact the church office.
SUMMER ZONE: Launching Wednesday, May 25th @ 6:00PM
Lesson One will be a study of Colossians 2:6-15 and deal with the temptation to be spiritually lazy. Pray that the Lord equips us in the fight for spiritual vitality through Colossians 2!

We're excited to announce Summer Zone! Summer Zone is for the whole family and all ages are welcome!

Here's the plan for each week:
  • 6:00PM: Gather for a focused time of teaching - our study will be on Temptation and we'll be drawing from various Scriptures as well as C.S. Lewis' Screwtape Letters to be wiser about fighting temptation. Be praying for the pastors as they finish up writing this curriculum!
  • 6:20PM: Break for fellowship over snacks - we'll be encouraging any willing participants to team up and bring a snack to share each week. We'll let the kids get their snacks first because immediately following this quick break they'll go downstairs for a supervised activity.
  • 6:30PM: Adults (and interested High Schoolers) form discussion groups around the teaching for the night. Children will go downstairs for a supervised activity (Week One: A Lego Building Challenge!)
  • 7:00-7:15PM: Wrap up and dismiss. Of course, everyone is welcome to stay at this point, but the formal plans for the night are wrapped up at this point for the sake of our childcare volunteers.

Ways YOU can contribute to the success of Summer Zone are:
  • Team up with a friend one week to bring a snack to share
  • Team up with a parent or other volunteer to provide a fun activity for the kids to do together (Lego challenges, special games, etc.)
  • Come prepared to discuss the teaching each week and say things that encourage others in their Christian walk
  • Linger afterward to help tidy up - we want to leave the building just like we found it!
  • Pray for really fruitful conversations and spiritual encouragement

Cold-Case Christianity: A Homicide Detective Investigates the Claims of the Gospels
Christianity could be defined as a “cold case”: it makes a claim about an event from the distant past for which there is little forensic evidence. In Cold-Case Christianity, J. Warner Wallace uses his nationally recognized skills as a homicide detective to look at the evidence and eyewitnesses behind Christian beliefs. Including gripping stories from his career and the visual techniques he developed in the courtroom, Wallace uses illustration to examine the powerful evidence that validates the claims of Christianity. A unique apologetic that speaks to readers’ intense interest in detective stories, Cold-Case Christianity inspires readers to have confidence in Christ as it prepares them to articulate the case for Christianity.
