Hello Mai Yang,

As we welcome the New Year, I continue to be filled with gratitude for the unwavering support of our community.

This past year marked significant milestones for Foothills Compassionate Care, including the continued growth of our palliative clinic, the thriving success of our Gift and Thrift stores, and the impactful programs we’ve delivered to support bereavement, caregivers, and more.

As we begin our 46th year of compassionate service, the goal for all of our service lines remains clear: to bring comfort, care, and connection to those who need it most.

Your generosity, whether through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading the word about our programs, has been instrumental in sustaining this mission.

Quality end-of-life care remains at the heart of all we do. Looking ahead, we are inspired to expand our reach and deepen our impact, always guided by the compassion that defines us.

We Thank you for being part of this journey.

Here’s to a New Year filled with hope, kindness, and community.

With gratitude,

Heidi Wingo

Why Foothills Compassionate Care?

It has been four months since we unveiled our new overarching umbrella name, but we still get questions about why we chose to add this name to our agency. We thought it might be a good time to revisit the "why".

Since 1979, Hospice of the Foothills has been a beacon of compassionate care in Western Nevada County. As patient and family needs evolved, we have grown to include other services as well. Foothills Compassionate Care is the umbrella under which Hospice of the Foothills, Sierra Community Palliative Care, Foothills Gift & Thrift, and our other programs reside. We continue to provide the same high-quality care -- nothing has changed but the overarching organizational name. The heart of our care is still Hospice of the Foothills.

Our dedicated staff will also focus on outreach, collaboration, education, and forming partnerships in our community to provide outstanding compassionate care through every step.

If you have a group or organization that would like to have a presentation made on the services we offer, please contact Mary Anne at mdavis@foothills-cares.org or call 530-274-5161.

Appreciation for Our Many Holiday Season Volunteers

It takes a village to do all it takes to care for our patients and every other aspect of our organization, especially at the holidays!

Special thanks to:

  • The Friends of Hospice members who stuffed thousands of envelopes for the Tree of Love memorial mailing

  • All who were involved with the planning and execution of the Toy Drive and Visit with Santa event at the Grass Valley Gift & Thrift store. It was lots of fun and provided gifts to many children in our community

i

  • Those who spent valuable time sitting with patients so their caregivers could have some respite time, or at least a break while their loved one visited with the volunteer

  • All the volunteers at the Foothills Gift & Thrift stores who waited on customers and got donated goods out on the floor in record time so you could shop and donate

This equates to over 1,200 volunteer hours at the Gift & Thrift stores, 192 for Friends of Hospice, and 84 for our patient support team for the month of December.
