In less than two weeks, we will kick off the first preview of our fun, festive, and family-friendly classic A CHRISTMAS CAROL!

It's become quite the tradition for many – from the folks who see every show at Portland Playhouse without fail, to patrons who may only see one show a year – and this is it!

But before we kick off this holiday season and dive right into the tale of the four ghosts sent to scare the Dickens out of Scrooge, we’d like to tell you what to expect this year.

New location

Its our fifth year of bringing the tale of the grumpy miser turned philanthropic triumph to life, but its the first time we’ve ever done it outside of our beloved Playhouse.  Due to the renovations going on in our theatrical home this month, the Portland Opera has kindly decided to take us in and host our performances in their Hampton Opera Center at 221 SE Caruthers Street, Portland. This location offers ample parking and quick access to the streetcar, max trains and buses at the base of the Tilikum Crossing.
New and returning cast members

We have a few familiar faces in our cast this year – among them, Charles Grant brings back his enrapturing embodiment of Christmas Present. You’ll recognize Todd Van Voris as he takes the role of Scrooge in this year’s production. This cast brings in a bunch of new faces as the Cratchit children with each role being shared between two talented actors . Check out the cast and crew lists to find your favorites and the ones to watch this year!
A slightly new point of view

The Opera Center theatre space will allow us to give a slightly different spin to the stage this year as the show will be presented in the round. The space also allows us to provide reserved seating, so you can choose the view you want now and have that seat waiting for you when you arrive.
What hasn’t changed?

You’ll still find the incredibly festive experience you’ve grown to know and love as your favorite Portland holiday tradition. The moment you walk through the door, you’ll be immersed in a Dickensian world filled with song and snowflakes, live music and laughter that will carry you through this classic tale, end the evening with a heart warming, rise out of your seat caroling finale to carry you joyfully through the holiday season.
