State of the Nation Address with Professor Mairi Spowage, Fraser of Allander Institute

We are delighted to welcome Mairi Spowage, Professor of Practice and Director of the Fraser of Allander Institute, to share a state of the nation update. The event will be hosted by EDAS Chair Liz McEntee.

Professor Spowage's areas of expertise include economic policy, economic statistics, national accounting, public sector finances, and economic and fiscal forecasting. She leads on the Institute's work with various partners, including those in business, the public and third sector. She is regularly asked to give evidence on economic and fiscal matters at Parliamentary Committees, such as the Finance and Constitution Committee and the Economy, Jobs and Fair Work Committee.

Mairi has been appointed to be the Budget Adviser to the Finance and Public Administration Committee for 2021-2023. Mairi has also been appointed as an Office for National Statistics (ONS) fellow and member of the Economic Experts Working Group (EEWG).

Introduction to Economic Development CPD Course
with Professor Graeme Roy

This course will provide an accessible introduction into the world of economic development through the lens of the Scottish economy. Key terms and data sources will be covered, alongside a discussion of Scotland’s economic strengths and weaknesses at both a national and local level.
We’ll spend some time talking about ‘hot topics’ of the day.

This online CPD course will take place on MSTeams over the following dates:
  • Monday 20th Feb 10:00 – 12:00
  • Monday 27th Feb 10:00 – 12:00
  • Monday 6th March 10:00 – 12:00

Delivering a Wellbeing Economy and a Just Transition towards Net Zero CPD Course
with Alan McGregor

This 6-hour CPD course deals with both the growing strategic focus on a Wellbeing Economy and the drive to achieve a Just Transition whilst tackling the Climate Emergency. It is designed for people working in a role which demands a wider understanding of the factors perpetuating inequality and of the interventions that can play a role in reducing these inequalities and improving economic development outcomes.

This course will take place on MSTeams over the following dates:

  • Thursday 23rd March, 10:00-12:00
  • Thursday 30th March, 10:00-12:00
