February 2024

It's going to be a FUN February!

Pope Memorial Library; we are MORE THAN BOOKS!

In January, there were some great programs and big smiles, like the one you see here from our Tacos & Trivia for families program on January 30th. The tacos were yummy, the contestants were eager, sooo smart and silly and we can't wait to do it again!

If you want to share some smiles of your own--check out what's happening this month and just sign up, stop in, make connections, make memories and have some fun in the library in February. Our Family Fun event happens during February vacation week, Tuesday, February 20th from 5:30-8:30pm. The fun fest includes live music, art and dancing with Moose with a Uke, a Learn to Draw Comics class, crafts, storytime, games, dinner and more. Keep your eyes open for details, registration will be required!

"...and there's a parrot!" When you're browsing the new books, you'll start to see some helpful, funny (and maybe slightly snarky) comments to help you make your next selection.

February 11th-April 27th we will be exhibiting art work from Fabiana Walsh. There will be a public reception with Fabiana on Tuesday, March 26th at 6pm. A portion of all art sales benefit the library; your purchase benefits local artists and our programs and collections-win/win. There are just a few days left to enjoy our first exhibit with various artists from the Mt Washington Valley Arts Association.

Update 1--The garden damaged in December is 90% repaired. The final piece, the re-installment of the sidewalk lighting, will be completed in early spring.

Update 2--Because some of you have asked! If you are wondering what's coming to shelves next, you can now see what's on order by visiting the website and looking for "COMING soon to shelves" on the left side of the homepage. Still not seeing that book you're hoping for? Don't forget our Adopt an Author program. And related to the collection, we have a patron who makes monthly donations and requests to build up our Large Print collection (thanks RM!) and many are now benefitting from his generosity. If you'd like to support the growth of a collection, rather than a specific author, let's talk

If you are looking to make new or strengthen existing connections within the library and your community, please consider volunteering at Pope; it can be very rewarding to spend time in the stacks, hang flyers around town, tend the gardens, share your expertise by teaching a class or maybe join the board of directors? For more information, stop by the circulation desk or call 603-356-2961.

We do not receive government funding and are reliant on the generosity of our patrons, community businesses, fundraisers and grants to cover operational expenses each year. Your support is vital to the library's continued growth and success as an essential community service.

I can never remember how this works, but I am enjoying the snow, so I hope the groundhog sees his shadow or comes out with snowshoes on tomorrow or whatever is supposed to happen to predict lots more wintry weather.
