What's On In May At The Warehouse Theatre

Putting on the Blitz
Written and Directed by Lucy Driver
5th and 6th May at 7.30pm and 7th May at 2.30pm

'Putting on the Blitz' follows a group of children from London's East End as they are evacuated to a small village near Ilminster. Lucy Driver's script contains songs, dances and games from the period of the Second World War as well as iconic broadcasts such as Princess Elizabeth, Neville Chamberlain and Winston Churchill. To the 70 children taking part, the world of Munitions Workers, Air Raid Wardens, Land Girls and Rationing has seemed as distant as Ancient History but they are enjoying the humour with which people faced up to what were in fact quite terrible times for many.

When We are Married
By J B Priestley
Directed by Lyn Lockyer
25th - 28th May 2016

In the heart of Northern England, three respectable couples, married on the same day, at the same churchy and by the same vicar, join to celebrate 25 years of blissful matrimony but the happy celebrations are brought to a sudden halt by a shocking revelation. As the home truths fly like confetti and conjugal rites turn to farcical fights, an evening of sparkling mayhem erupts. With a photographer from the local paper due to arrive any second, a missing housekeeper and a doorbell that won't stop ringing, can the three couples keep a lid on their embarrassing secret? This is a classic comedy that is a blessed union of laughs and surprises.

Music

Friday 13th May at 8.00pm
(pre-show supper at 7:00pm)
MIKE DENHAM
plays
" THE JOHNSONS"

Tickets £10 (£23 including pre-show supper) can be booked on 01460 54973

The name Johnson has figured highly in the history of jazz, there have been a great many of them, Lonnie, Pete, James P, Bunk, Budd, Osie, and JJ to name just a few. They played and composed at the highest level, producing some of the most well known tunes in the world of jazz. Mike will be telling the story of some of them and playing the best known of the hits they created, with anecdotes relating to the tunes, styles and names of the Johnsons who wrote
and played them.  This will be a fascinating jazz history lesson.

Mike Denham has played at the Meeting House many, many times, and has always been immensely popular, with his performances generally are played to a full house.  As well being a brilliant pianist, playing across a wide variety of styles, he is a great story teller with a sense of humour which adds hugely to his act. His in depth knowledge of early jazz is second to none, and his fascination with his subject is clear for all to see.  He is always a pleasure to listen to. Mike is a fine solo pianist, with an interesting and tasteful repertoire of American jazz from the early years of the century through to 50's Rock and Roll. He plays classic rags by Scott Joplin, the blues and stomps of Jelly Roll Morton and Fats Waller, and popular songs by George Gershwin and Irving Berlin, as well as eight-to-the bar boogie and blues from Meade Lux Lewis and Albert Ammons through to the somewhat more up-to-date "Fats" Domino.

Friday 27th May at 8.00pm
(pre-show supper at 7:00pm)
UK Masters of the keyboard
DAVE NEWTON
and
CRAIG MILVERTON
playing together on two grand pianos

Tickets £12 (£25 including pre-show supper) can be booked on 01460 54973

Here is a unique opportunity to hear our two regular pianists at the same time. Between them they are fourteen times UK award winners, and as such represent the best piano performers we can expect to find.  To hear them together is a real treat.  They will be covering a wide range of music, but will be focussing mainly on well known jazz standards and other material which,  with their experience of playing at Ilminster, will be suited to our regular audience.
It's bound to be a sell-out, book early.
