A Word from Diane
This coming Sunday, January 24th at 11:30am we’ll gather for a congregational meeting via Zoom for the first time ever! As you know we usually schedule our congregational meetings at the end of each worship service on a given Sunday.

In a normal year we meet twice, once mid-year to elect new officers and leaders of the congregation, and once at this time of year. The January meeting is convened to receive and review the current year’s budget, approved in December by the Council, and to highlight the previous year’s End-of-Year report.

The work done in those meetings is important and keeping everyone informed about our common ministry is crucial, but as meetings go, they aren’t usually super exciting ones, right?

Except this year! I think it will be very exciting this Sunday just to see each other face to face!

Yes, it will be good to hear about the ways we will financially undergird this year’s work and to remember all that we did last year even in a challenging time, but more than anything, I’m looking forward to seeing YOU again.

Until the pandemic, who knew we took for granted such simple things as seeing each other? I wrote in my year-end senior minister’s report that I don’t think we will take for granted worshiping in person together ever again, but I also know I won’t take for granted just getting to see you either!

I miss your faces, so please join in the Congregational Zoom Meeting this Sunday even if this will be your first time on Zoom. It really is easy, it’s free, and you don’t have to have an account of your own to join the meeting. You can use a smart phone, a tablet, or a computer. If you have a choice, the computer will give you a bigger screen to see more people at once.

When the time comes, all you do is click on the link below and then when it asks for a passcode, just type in ACC! We will send out a message to everyone again on Saturday with the link and passcode.

Join Zoom Meeting

As you click on the link, you may get a message that says, “Open Zoom.” Click on that and once you get in, depending on what device you’re using, you may connect automatically, or you may have to connect your video (look for a video camera icon to click on or words that direct you to turn on video) and your audio. That is usually as easy as clicking on a button or on an icon that looks like a megaphone.

If you’ve never done it before I know it can sound a little daunting, but I think a little hustle and bustle will surely be worth getting see each other and do the business of the church together, don’t you?

I’m looking forward to seeing YOU on Sunday on Zoom at 11:30am and I can’t wait!

Peace & Grace, Diane

Study Groups to Resume
*Note new beginning dates
The Sunday Afternoon and Wednesday Morning Study Groups will resume soon – this coming Sunday the 24th and next Wednesday the 27th – reading In God’s Presence: Theological Reflections on Prayer by Marjorie Hewitt Suchocki.

I’ve often referred to this work in sermons about prayer because Suchocki is such a gifted theologian and writer, her imagery and illustrations offering keen insight into the mysteries of God of prayer.

Even if you’ve never done a study with us before, consider joining this time. You can find the book for Kindle on Amazon, you can find good used books from several online booksellers, and new paperbacks are available from our denominational press, chalicepress.com at $18.99 each.

We meet via Zoom Sundays from 4:00-5:00pm or Wednesdays from 10:00-11:00am each week. We’re postponing by one more week our start dates to give everyone time to get the book and read the first chapter before our first meeting.

Won’t you join us?

Thank You from the McDonald's
We would like to thank all our church friends for the prayers, telephone calls and get well cards that we received during our back surgery recoveries. We felt the love from each of you. Our church family is a blessing that we love and hope to see again soon in 2021. God bless everyone and stay safe.

Mike & Cindy McDonald
Thank You from Julie Wilson
My family and I want to thank the many beautiful people of ACC for the cards, prayers, meals and well wishes over the last few months. It has been a rough 5 months with both my husband and Mother going through injury, illness, surgeries and recoveries.  I felt your prayers, read your emails and cards and was at peace knowing that I wasn’t going this alone. My husband is doing very well and walking and my Mom is continuing to get stronger everyday and planning on moving back to her house this weekend!  I thank God for everyone of you.

Book Club: January 26
Our Book and Cookie Club will meet Tuesday, January 26th at 7:00. For those who are interested in joining our group, email [email protected] and she will send you the link for our Zoom meeting. We would love to have you.

We, as a group, have made a commitment to read more books by People of Color this year. Our next book is A Long Petal of the Sea by the acclaimed Isabelle Allende. It is a historical novel that covers a subject not frequently written about.
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From the author of The House of the Spirits, this epic novel spanning decades and crossing continents follows two young people as they flee the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War in search of a place to call home.

“One of the most richly imagined portrayals of the Spanish Civil War to date, and one of the strongest and most affecting works in [Isabel Allende’s] long career.”—The New York Times Book Review
Exploring Worship Winter 2021: “Light, Love, Lent, Live, Learn”
Dear young families,

Our Exploring Worship team had a productive meeting last week and we’d like to share with you our plan this new semester. Having heard lots of helpful feedback from our students and parents, we’re mindful of the ever-changing nature of life these days as we continue to deal with COVID and hope this adjustment will better suit families’ needs and schedules.

Beginning now, Exploring Worship will gather virtually on the last Sunday of each month from 9:45-10:15, starting January 31st.  Each month, we’ll have a scriptural focus, along with a “question to explore,” available for the month prior to each meeting where kids and families can familiarize themselves with the theme and have the chance to talk about it with their parents and other family members. We’ll be sharing each month’s theme, along with the exploration question here on the Buzz and in another message email just just to young families. If you would like to check to make sure your email address is included on this list, please contact Ruth at [email protected].

Lastly, we want to give our special thanks to Alberta Lathan and Suzanne Snapp who have chosen to step down in their roles as Exploring Worship teachers for this semester. We are grateful to Jane Lawrence and Larry Rahn, who will be leading all 5 of our monthly Exploring Worship sessions this semester.

Join us Sunday, January 31st at 9:45am on Zoom. Our these, “Light” will be a lesson on the Epiphany and God’s light as it shows us the way in our lives.

“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good works
and glorify your Father in Heaven.” -Matthew 5:16

Exploration question: How do you listen and watch for God's direction?

Watch your email for Zoom login information. We look forward to seeing you on the 31st!
