A Word from Diane
So many of our ACC members are engaged in ministries of love, and today I want to highlight one of our food ministries!

Did you know that we have some very talented, hard-working gardeners whose faith in action will again this year help feed many of our neighbors who are experiencing food insecurity and hunger?

What started out six years ago as a relatively small plot on our former pee wee baseball grounds has grown into a sizeable garden now protected by a newly installed deer fence.

As you know or can imagine, a lot of hard work goes into a garden so first I want to say a big thank you to our primary gardeners – the movers and shakers of the project – Kendal Nagy, Janette Smith, and Larry Rahn. Each brings knowledge, hands-on experience, and perseverance to make the garden grow. By the way, I happen to know that they are all willing to do some on-the-job training with anyone who would like to learn to help!

They are joined in this good work by other faithful gardeners including JD Reed, Debbie Bonhomme, Cristi Billue, Jean Tatum, Dave Tatum, Lynn Cohee, and Loveta Cain; and fence builders Richard Cohee, Lenny Noens, Dave Stansifer, Bob Spargur, Bob Burrows, Tom Cain, Todd Wilson, Larry Rahn, and Kendal Nagy. THANK YOU ALL!

What are they growing back there? Delicious, healthful foods like tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, cabbage, carrots, onions, lettuce, raspberries, and black raspberries! Soon they’ll be harvesting the early crops and sharing them with the Linwood Christian Church Food Pantry.

The garden is an essential part of our ministry with Linwood’s pantry. That fresh produce beautifully augments the staples we send each month year-round, and it is appreciated by LCC and the neighbors they serve. Thank you to EACH OF YOU who contribute month after month!

Larry Kerr, manager of the Linwood Pantry, sent our congregation a letter of condolence on Steve Belding’s death, writing, “Steve was such an integral part of the many people of your church who participate in the work of Linwood’s Food Pantry. He faithfully delivered the food from Allisonville to us for many years. His smiling face and pleasant personality will certainly be missed.”

He continued, “We also thank your members who have provided Linwood with contributions of food, goods, and monetary assistance. We are particularly grateful for Betty Kaiser, JD Reed, and Janette Smith as volunteers. Without this support from your congregation, it would be very hard to continue with the work of the Food Pantry.”

Thank you all as we continue to garden and shop and volunteer in the name of Love.
This is truly Christ’s work in the world.
Grace & Peace, Diane
Reminder of Sunday Morning Covid Guidelines

At their meeting last evening, the Reopening Committee approved some updates to our Sunday morning in-person worship guidelines.

  1. We will no longer take temperatures at the door.
  2. We will now seat worshipers three feet apart instead of six feet, but if there are those who feel more comfortable maintaining six feet of social distance, we will be happy to accommodate that wish.
  3. We will continue wearing masks for the time being; at this moment we are still under a mask mandate in Marion County, but beginning this Sunday worshipers may sing with their masks on.
  4. We are removing the Plexiglas barriers from the pulpit and the Communion table, but will leave the one in place at the Lectern for the time being until the Elders have the opportunity to discuss their comfort level with removing it.
  5. Classes and other groups that want to begin meeting in person may reserve space to do so inside the building wearing masks or outside with masks optional. Click the link below. If you encounter any issues submitting your request, please contact [email protected].

We will continue making reservations for now, so we have contact information at hand in case we need to do contact tracing. Last Sunday when we had three visitors, we also realized that a side benefit of the list is the ability to reach out and welcome those who visit!

We celebrate that we are making progress toward a more normal worship experience even as we are also continuing to care for those among us, including our young children, who are not yet vaccinated.

A heartfelt thank you to the members of our Reopening Committee for their care, wisdom, and faithful perseverance!
Click the button below to register for in-person worship for any dates through the end of May. Be prepared to include the names of anyone attending with you. For those unable to sign up online for any reason, please call the office at 317-849-3957 and speak with or leave a message for Ruth Wolff.

We continue to hold the families of June Cotton and Steve Belding in our prayers. June’s service will be tomorrow and Steve’s on June 19th.

Among our communal and global concerns:

Memorial Day: We remember, honor, and give thanks for all the members of the armed forces who have given their lives both in war and in peacetime. And we pray for families who have had to go on in life without their dearly loved ones.

We continue our prayers for all who are suffering with Covid. Here in the U.S. younger people are now being hospitalized. We give thanks that our Covid numbers locally are declining and pray that that will continue. We pray too, that people the world over will soon have access to the vaccine that is saving so many lives.

We continue our prayers for all those whose daily lives are burdened by the sin of systemic racism, and for a spirit of courage in our pursuit to be actively anti-racist in all we do and believe.

We pray for our Global Prayer Partners, this week in Egypt.

Lemonade Cafe This Sunday!

Lemonade Cafe outdoors by the bell in front of the church for Sunday, June 6. Weather permitting, we will continue with our new Cafe tradition through the month of June. We want to continue to keep everyone safe and we feel like this is a fun way to do it.

Help Us Make Coffee Cafe a Success! Coffee Cafe is needing volunteers for set up and volunteers for serving as a host for Coffee Cafe. Set up and hosting right now is a little different but eventually, we will return to Cafe in the family room. If you are interested, please see Toni Medlen or contact her at [email protected]. Hosts serve about once every 6 weeks and set up is once every 3 weeks so it does not involve a commitment of a lot of time ... certainly not every week. It is a great way to get involved in an important ministry to provide an opportunity for casual, informal fellowship for our members and visitors.

A great big Thanks to all who sent Sympathy Cards in memory of my brother (Billy Ray Mitchell). The family really appreciated all prayers, words of comfort, phone calls & support. Especially appreciative of our outstanding Ministers, Rev. Diane Spleth & Joyce Coalson, words cannot express the peace of mind that each of you so joyfully gives. Thanks & God Bless.
