LATEST CITY NEWS & UPDATES
The city of Sterling Heights would like to take a moment to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice 20 years ago on September 11, 2001.

May we never forget how our country came together that day, and how we came out standing taller and stronger than ever.

“When the terrorists attacked us that day, I think they thought they would break our spirit. I think they thought they would break our country. I think they thought they had brought us to our knees, and what they didn't anticipate was that we would come back stronger and better and more prepared. Since that day, we’ve really seen, I think, a commitment to peace, a commitment to prosperity, a commitment to service, and it’s because of ... our police officers, our firefighters, our first responders.” - Mayor Michael C. Taylor.

In commemoration with Patriot Day, we honor those who continue to put their life on the line for our community each and every day. Thank you to our brave men and women who wear the uniform proudly, and thank you to those who show your support to our first responders.

The Halo on Hall Road will be lit on Patriot Day 9/11 in Red White and Blue chase.

September is National Suicide Prevention Month and the Sterling Heights Fire Department is bringing awareness to mental health through the Yellow Rose Campaign endorsed by the International Association of Fire Chiefs and a paper presented titled, “Under the Helmet: Performing an internal size up, A proactive approach to ensuring mental wellness.”

Why a yellow rose? The rose represents confidentiality, while the color yellow embraces positivity, optimism and honor.

The Sterling Heights Fire Department will wear a special uniform t-shirt for the month of September that reflects the color yellow in honor of the Yellow Rose Campaign. This shirt is the same as all fire departments in Michigan that embrace and support the efforts of mental health and wellness; a form of solidarity of the Michigan fire service as a whole.

The Halo on Hall Road will be lit purple and teal tonight, Friday, Sept. 10 in honor of World Suicide Prevention Day.
