ACADEMIC CONSIDERATION FOR EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES

Academic Consideration for Extenuating Circumstances
The Academic Consideration Request Portal is now open for the Spring/Summer 2022 academic terms.

Summer 2022 Academic Consideration Request Types:

Short-Term Requests for Academic Consideration for Extenuating Circumstances.
  • Up to three days (without supporting documentation). This option can only be used once per term and is not available for exams/deferred exams.
  • NEW: Up to five days (supporting documentation required). Please note that all requests submitted under the “up to three days” option can be extended until up to five days provided that supporting documentation which clearly supports the requested timeline is uploaded to the request.
Long-Term Requests for Academic Consideration for Extenuating Circumstances (up to 12 weeks). Supporting documentation is required for this request type and must support the timeline that you are requesting.
  • Should you require beyond 12 weeks of academic consideration, your circumstance is considered ongoing and cannot be granted. Students who need additional support beyond this timeline should reach out to Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS) to secure academic accommodation. Please follow the instructions on the New Students to QSAS website for information about registering for their service and speaking with a QSAS Advisor remotely.

Please note that our Zoom Office Hours will be closed for the Summer 2022 term, from May 21 to September 13, 2022. If you require support during this time, please contact the Academic Consideration Team at asc.consideration@queensu.ca. We encourage you to review the Academic Consideration for Extenuating Circumstances website as well as the COVID-19 Related Absence Reference Guide prior to contacting the Academic Consideration Team for a more timely reply. Responses can take up to 48 business hours to be received.
ACADEMIC STANDING ANNUAL REVIEW

The Faculty Office is currently in the process of assessing student records for the 2021/2022 year to determine academic standing. Students are expected to maintain a cumulative GPA of 1.60 or above to remain in good academic standing.

Students who do not achieve this may receive an academic sanction such as being placed on academic probation or being required to withdraw. Some of you may see a ruling appear on your transcripts this week; however, these rulings may change while our review is still underway. Please wait until you receive a letter via SOLUS on Wednesday, May 25 to receive confirmation of your academic standing before contacting our office to book advising appointments. Students who are in good academic standing will not receive a notification, only those not in good standing or at risk of not meeting requirements to graduate will receive a letter via SOLUS.

For more information about your GPA and Academic Standing, please visit our GPA Information and Repair webpage.
REMINDER - PLAN SELECTION

The period for selecting your Degree Plan via SOLUS started on Monday, May 16 and will be open to Friday, May 27. If you have 24.0 units or more of completed courses, you must select a Plan or you will not be able to register for courses for the 2021-22 academic year. Please make sure you review the Plan Thresholds on our Plan selection webpage (under what it takes to be accepted to a Plan).

Have fewer than 24.0 units of passed courses? Email asc.registration@queensu.ca or passhelp@queensu.ca.
FIRST YEAR HOTLINE

Have questions about plan selection? Call our first year hotline at 613-533-6708 between the hours of 9:00 am and noon and 1:00 - 4:00 pm from May 16 - 27. Please note the hotline will be closed Friday, May 20, for the university-wide staff/faculty holiday and Monday, May 23 for Victoria Day.
MEDIAL RENAMED TO JOINT HONOURS

The Faculty is excited to announce the official renaming of the Medial which, following the awarding of Spring 2022 degrees, will officially be known as the Joint Honours. This terminology is more reflective of the degree plan and is more widely understood in the Canadian university landscape.

The Spring Class of 2022 will be the last to graduate with medials. Students currently or subsequently registered in medial plans will have their records updated to Joint Honours automatically.

Read more about the renaming in the news story: Read more about the renaming in the news story: FAS renames medial degree plan to Joint Honours.
