SUPPORTS FOR IN-PERSON EXAMS

Further to the email you received from the Provost, support information is available on the Safe Return to Campus website.
ACADEMIC CONSIDERATION AND DEFERRED EXAM PERIOD

If you cannot write a scheduled exam due to illness or other extenuating circumstance, you should submit an academic consideration request as soon as you are able to through the Academic Consideration Request Portal. Your instructor will provide details concerning your deferred exam after your consideration request has been processed. Please remember the volume is typically high during this time so it may take some time to receive a reply. Deferred exams are scheduled to take place May 12 to 15.

Note that all deferred exams are to be written in the format they were originally scheduled in. For example, if your original exam was scheduled to be in person, you must write your deferred exam in person. If your original exam was scheduled to take place online, you must write your deferred exam online.

We cannot accept requests to switch exam formats from in-person to online or vice versa. Students who cannot write in-person exams during the regular or deferred exam period due to extenuating circumstances can submit an academic consideration request through our online Academic Consideration Request Portal. Please note our office verifies the time in which you are experiencing an extenuating circumstance, and you will have to follow up with your instructor to find out what options (such as another deferred exam) may be available.

For more information regarding academic consideration please visit our Academic Consideration Webpage.
ARTS AND SCIENCE ONLINE (ASO) OFF-CAMPUS EXAM FEE

The Arts and Science Online (ASO) off-campus exam fee of $100 per course has been reinstated and will resume in the Summer 2022 term for online proctored exams. The Faculty of Arts and Science waived the $100 off-campus exam fee from Summer 2020 to Winter 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Students enrolled exclusively in online courses will have two options to write their exams:

  1. You may choose to write your exam(s) online using Examity proctoring services where you will be charged the $100 exam fee; or
  2. You may choose to write your exam(s) in-person on Queen's campus in Kingston where you will NOT be charged the $100 exam fee.

Since enrolment for Summer 2022 term is already underway, this exam fee will not be charged to your student account until after the start of class. It will appear in SOLUS after the last day to drop a course without academic penalty, which you can find by referring to our Important Dates webpage

The fee will be expected to be charged at the time of enrolment moving forward for the Fall/Winter 2022-23 academic year provided that current public health guidelines stay the same.

ASO will send out communication to all students who are enrolled in Summer 2022 online courses to let them know when the fee has been charged to their student account. It is the student’s responsibility to check your outstanding debt in SOLUS after you receive the email communication about the exam fees, and to process your payment. Please note that if you do not pay this required exam fee, you will not be eligible to order a transcript or enroll in subsequent terms.

If you are taking courses both online and on-campus, you must write all of your exams in-person in Kingston and will not be allowed to write an online exam.
CHANGE OF PLAN PERIOD

If you are planning to change your Degree Plan (via SOLUS), the period for making changes will take place from May 16 to 27. For more information and resources please visit the Change of Plan webpage.
