Honoring Our Graduates
Send us your good news
graduation_cap.jpg
Each June the parish recognizes the academic achievements of our church family. If you have a recent graduate in your midst, send us their info - name, institution, major, plans, etc. - so we may celebrate them on Pentecost. Kathleen Ireland will be gathering the stats through Tuesday, June 4, for publication in the June 9 bulletin.

Pack a Bag to Go
After both services
Service Ministry is the sponsor for this Sunday's Blessings in a Bag event. After services visit the packing station and collect non-perishable snacks to keep in your car. Reach out to someone you encounter during your day.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in -  Matthew 25:35

Season of Prayer
Specifically for three things
New EDSD logo Our bishop-elect, the Rev. Canon Susan Brown Snook, invites everyone in the diocese into a season of prayer from Sunday, May 26 through Sunday, June 16. Throughout these 15 days of prayer, she encourages you to gather in your faith community, in the places where you work, live and worship, and within your own heart, to call upon the Holy Spirit to pour out God's grace and love on our diocese.

Here in the Diocese of San Diego, you are invited to pray specifically for three things:
  • Growth in discipleship: that all Episcopalians in our diocese should grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ through worship, learning, and service to others.
  • Evangelism: that those in our churches, neighborhoods, and communities whose lives would be enriched by the good news of Christ would hear that good news.
  • Serving our neighbors: that God's mission in our communities would be empowered as we go out into our neighborhoods, meet the people who are there, become acquainted with their needs, hopes, and longings, and discern our own ministries of service there.
There are wonderful resources available on the diocesan website - prayers, scripture, volunteer opportunities, an evangelism toolkit, and more.

Let's Celebrate on Pentecost
It's the church's birthday!
Pentecost is a rich and full day at Christ Church - t he day when God made church - fire and wind and doves just a few of the things we associate with the gift of the Holy Spirit and the birthday of the Church. Join us at 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. to remember the day that God created the Church and to be inspired as to how God can continue to use our gifts to further Christ's ministry.

Oh, and we'll also have a yummy BBQ lunch for one and all, a bounce-house for the little ones, and, of course, Rev. Anne's now famous "mile-long" banana split. Wear your best red outfit and we'll see you there!

Pie Social for RefugeeNet Campers
Father's Day - June 16
The wildly popular Pie Social returns on Father's Day, June 16. Why not treat dad to a slice, or even a whole pie. Bakers start planning your delicious pies - eaters start saving your pennies to purchase pie! Buy a pie for your Father's Day celebration. All pie proceeds benefit refugee campers attending Camp Stevens this summer. Pies will be sold after the 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. services.

Contact Sarah Shealy Stump if you are baking - let her know what pie you'll bring.   All pies should be in the church kitchen by 8:00 a.m. that morning. Please bring your pie in a disposal pie tin or a dish that is clearly labeled.

Self Compassion &Yoga Retreat
Be in the Moment
A unique opportunity awaits at a two-day retreat focused on "compassionate self care" led by Heather Smith, a Yoga Alliance Certified trainer and certified Boundless Compassion facilitator. You may recognize Heather Smith as the long-time face of outreach programs at St. Mark's, City Heights.

The goal of the Self Compassion & Yoga Retreat is to help us recognize how our attitude and approach to self affects our ability to be a compassionate presence with and for others. We will explore what it means to be compassionate toward oneself, become aware of the continuum of compassion fatigue and strategize plans for compassionate self care.

Join Heather July 12-13 at Christ Church for this unique opportunity. Registration is open now. Space is limited to 25 participants.
Early Bird Registration ($65) ends May 30th and price increases to $80.

Bishop Transition Information
Help welcome our new bishop
Help welcome the Rev. Canon Susan Brown Snook to our diocese by making a financial contribution toward a gift for her. There are many things that a new bishop requires - a mitre, a cope, a crozier, rochet and chimere, a tippet, an episcopal ring, purple vestments. The diocese is being asked to raise funds towards a bishop's cassock and cincture, a white mitre and a traveling case for the mitre. We are extending the invitation to all members of the Diocese to make a contribution toward these gifts. You may donate electronically using this link or you may send a check payable to "EDSD," with "Bishop-elect gift" in the memo line. Please mail them to: EDSD, 2083 Sunset Cliffs Blvd., San Diego, CA 92107.
