DeltaARTS awarded $100K Grant f rom Assisi

DeltaARTS is very excited to announce th
at we have been awarded a $100,000 Challenge Gra nt from the A ssisi Foundation of Memphis, Inc., which will be used for program enhancement and renovation of the Glenn P. Schoettle Arts Education Center.

In order to receive this funding, DeltaARTS must raise $300,000 by February 2018. We have already raised $125,000 through our Capital Campaign, "Building Together a Better Community," which kicked off in September 2016.

"We thank the Assisi Foundation and those who have contributed to our Campaign, and feel confident that we will succeed in raising the matching funds, which will enable us to provide so many arts opportunities for our community in our state-of-the-art building," says Amelia Barton, DeltaARTS Executive Director.

Kelly Pouncey, DeltaARTS' new Finance Director and return CYT parent
DeltaARTS welcomes
Kelly Pouncey
as new Finance Director

The new year brings bittersweet news for DeltaARTS staff. While we welcomed new Finance Director, Kelly Pouncey, to our team in January, we also had to say farewell to our outgoing Finance Director, Brier Turner, who retired after five years of dedicated service. (We miss you, Brier!)

Kelly is already a familiar face to DeltaARTS and the community, as she is a CYT parent and a very active community member! She is currently the President of the Crittenden County Library Board, and also serves as Children's Director at Community Bible Study. She and her husband, Michael, are members of Trinity in the Fields Anglican Church. She is also a tutor with the Dyslexia Foundation of Memphis.

"I have been impressed with the scope of the work DeltaARTS performs in Crittenden County, and I look forward to working here as we promote the arts to local citizens," Kelly says. "The arts are important for building confidence, encouraging creativity, and stimulating brainpower, which are traits welcome in any career field."

Originally from Macon, Ga., Kelly has lived in Crittenden County for 19 years. She graduated from Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga., where she earned a BA in English Literature and History. Kelly has been the bookkeeper for Pouncey Planters since 2001, and is the former Education Specialist and Capital Campaign Assistant for The Children's Museum of Memphis.

Kelly and Michael are the proud parents of three beautiful children and two "fur babies": 16-year-old Lee, an Academies of West Memphis sophomore, 12-year-old Claudia, a West Jr. High seventh-grader (and CYT actor); 2-year-old Jack, an enthusiastic attendee of First Presbyterian Daycare; Rolo, a 4-year-old yellow lab; and Husher, an 11-year-old off-the-track Thoroughbred horse.

Welcome to the DeltaARTS family, Kelly!

CYT applauds new directors, stage managers for 'Peter Pan'
DeltaARTS has brought a fantastic new creative team to the Crittenden Youth Theatre stage!

Chasity "Chat" Adaway, an ASU Mid-South freshman, Marion High School graduate, and former CYT participant, is the Stage Manager for "Peter Pan."
Erica Richardson, Marion High School sophomore and current CYT participant, is the Asst. Stage Manager.

Meredith Melville and Ashley Rogers are the Co-Directors for "Peter Pan," and are brand new to the Crittenden Youth Theatre family.

"We love to see CYT alumni come back to help teach the new and upcoming throng of young actors, and Chat and Erica are doing a great job serving as role models for our kids," said CYT Coordinator, Alex Waddell Smith. "We are always calling for new directors who can provide a truly educational, yet fun, experience, and Meredith and Ashley have answered that call with enthusiasm and grace!"

Meredith, a theatre instructor at Arkansas State University and judge for the Orpheum Theatre's High School Musical Theatre Awards, has a BA in Theatre from the University of North Texas and an MFA in Theatre (Directing) from the University of Memphis. Ashley, a current costume designer for several Memphis-area schools and a former junior high theatre teacher, has worked with the Orpheum Theatre's High School Technical Intensive, and has a BFA in Theatre Education from East Carolina University and an MFA in Theatrical Design and Technical Production (Costume) from University of Memphis.

"The support from the CYT staff and production team make this process smooth," Meredith says. "Their organization is wonderful! Looking forward to how the actors' hard work is reflected in the production! Great team - great work!"

"The parent committees are fan
tastic and much appreciated!" Ashley says. "We definitely couldn't do this with out them. Their creativity and support is bringing the show to life. Also, the CYT staff really makes our jobs a breeze. We're very happy to be here!"

"Peter Pan" lands on the West Memphis Civic Auditorium stage Feb. 23-25. See the story below for more details!

CYT presents K-8 show 'Peter Pan' Feb. 23-25
Crittenden Youth Theatre actors, parent volunteers, and production staff have been hard at work since early January preparing for the spring MainStage K-8 show, "Peter Pan," sponsored by Trent Pierce, M.D., Family Practice Center of West Memphis.

More than 60 local children have spent the last five weeks memorizing, learning, blocking, creating, and collaborating, while parent volunteers were behind the scenes developing costumes and scenery for the magical world of Neverland, the Darlings' home, and Captain Hook's hideout - it's no easy task! Please come out, and bring some friends to support one of the most collaborative and inclusive programs in our community!

Audiences will enjoy the timeless tale of Neverland and its most famous child who never grows up in the original, non-musical version written by J.M. Barrie.

Performances are Thursday, Feb. 23, at 12:30 p.m. ($5 on Thursday ONLY) and Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24 and 25, at 7 p.m. ($12 adults/$6 youth 12 and under) at the West Memphis Civic Auditorium.

Thank you, Trent Pierce, M.D., Family Practice Center of West Memphis, for sponsoring this show and making theatre possible for the children of Crittenden County!

DeltaARTS Spotlight Volunteer:
Kate Stall

Kate Stall has served as head seamstress for the past four Crittenden Youth Theatre shows, and has even volunteered for Carnival by assisting with Display. For CYT's current show, "Peter Pan," Kate sewed more than 20 costumes in less than five weeks!

"I come from a long line of seamstresses," Kate tells us. (Her family legend is that one of her great-great-grandparents was a seamstress for Queen Victoria.) "I feel like I am blessed to have this ability, and I am so thankful for many who took the time to teach me. I feel called to give of my time to such a worthwhile organization as DeltaARTS. Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might. So thankful to have the time to serve!"

We are so grateful for all of Kate's amazing work and patience in taking measurements, meeting many creative challenges head-on, and making adjustments after fittings. She is a top-notch volunteer - if you see her, please tell her you appreciate her community service!
