NYACK CENTER

more than a community building, a place to build community

Our Community Refrigerator

We are so grateful to our beloved community who gathered to cut the ribbon on our Community Refrigerator! The project is a collaboration with our friends at Proyecto Faro. Pictures posted here are of some of the group that cut the ribbon, PF Co-Director Maria  Marasigan, our wonderful Didier Dumas, artist Kiara Knight and NC Board Member PaulWeiss! Didier donated desserts for our reception.

As many of you know, the Community Fridge was moved indoors temporarily as we work with the Village of Nyack to ensure that the project is a success.  We are working hard to comply with all local regulations. We hope to be back outdoors soon!

A labor of love for sure as our Community Resource Coordinator and artist Kiara Knight and ASP Counselor and artist Tarah Franck painted our Community Refrigerator and local folks brought fresh fruit, eggs and vgtables grown by Proyeto Faro to fill it!

Our partner, Proyecto Faro is immigrant-led organizing and solidarity for immigrants in Rockland County. The refrigerator is a community-led initiative that provides free fresh food for food-insecure immigrants through community accessible refrigerators. To join one of our Community Refrigerator volunteer teams email us info@nyackcenter.org

While we are indoors, the fridge is open M-F from 10-6. Take what you need, leave what you can.

Our Honorees-Kenyatta and Rudy have been generous donors, run backpack and holiday gift drives both personally and through Kenyatta's business R2M Realty. Kenyatta is a former Nyack Center Board Member and Legacy Gala Co-Chair. During the pandemic, she organized groceries and dinners to go for families at Nyack Center.

The Rotary Club of Nyack celebrating its 100 year of service has been a steadfast supporter through donations and helping hands. The Club has run its COVER to COVER literacy program for children at Nyack Center, provided financial support for our Breakfast Club, and school supply drive.
