The Winter Storm 2022 Clean-up

Glenmore in snow.jpg

First, a big thank you to each of you for responding to the Spring Branch and Limb Pick-up which was moved forward to March 7th. Thanks also for your collective efforts to help clean up Common Areas and drag limbs and branches to the curb. The curbside debris was significant.

Normal chipping and shredding equipment were replaced by backhoes, front loaders and dump trucks to handle the massive about of organic material. As of last Friday, approximately 90% of the Spring Branch and Limb Pick-up had been completed.

The Glenmore tree canopy was significantly impacted by the January 3rd storm. Hundreds of trees were damaged and our contractors, and yours, have been hard at work to clear the debris.

Immediately following the storm, CARB drafted and the Board of Directors approved the GCA Common Area Storm Response Priorities to address this and future Storm Damage.

P1: Emergency response to clear roadways and walking paths was completed within a week after the storm, with primary support from our landscape contractor, D&D.

P2: Removal and/or trimming of common area vegetation/trees that pose a danger to persons and/or property) has been substantially completed, except for a few miscellaneous items which will be remedied as soon as possible.

P3: Clean up in parks and highly visible areas is well underway.  Near term items for cleanup include areas on Newbridge and Farringdon, the waterway behind the footbridge on the Glen Lochen Pond, the damaged tree on the Piper Pond, two downed trees at the corner of Ferndown and Turnbridge, and damage behind 2331 Ferndown (awaiting land survey).

P4: Walking trail clean-up is being initiated. Very soon after the storm, there was some initial work done to clear some of the paths of fallen and bent trees. However, after establishing GCA Storm Cleanup Priorities this work was put on hold. Our near-term work will be to clean up the Pendower Trail behind 2397 Pendower (awaiting land survey), cleanup of the Common Area behind 3428 Darby Rd, removal of the downed trees on the Carroll Creek Trail near holes 5/6, downed trees and limbs on the Queenscroft spur trail, and clearance of cut trees along the Bluebird Trail.

The 2022 Annual Budget for Storm Cleanup of $5,800 has been exceeded. Through February, we had spent $22,265, and currently forecast spending over $75,000. In addition, we anticipate that our Spring Limb & Branch pickup will exceed our planned budget due to the sheer volume of debris cleared. The GCA Board of Directors is exploring options to cover this unplanned cost.

Finally, thank you for your patience as Glenmore recovers from the impact of this significant storm event, Snowmageddon 2022. Thank you to the CARB team and contractors that have been so responsive and committed to this effort.
