Your most likely encounter with a pharmacist is at your local pharmacy. Did you know though that pharmacists practice in many different settings?
You can find pharmacists working in hospitals, clinics, drug manufacturers, research facilities and more. Pharmacists are the medication experts in health care. They are relied upon by physicians, nurses, and others to provide guidance on what medications are best for a patient.
Do you have an interest in health care? Consider a career in pharmacy. Pharmacists are one of the most respected professions in the U.S., they have high starting salaries, and there are a multitude of different practice settings and opportunities. A career in pharmacy will give you the satisfaction on knowing that you are impacting patient lives every day.
As a student, start out working in a pharmacy as a pharmacy technician. You can become a pharmacy technician as early as 16. This will provide an opportunity to experience how pharmacies operate and the role that pharmacists play. You may even decide to make a career out of being a technician too. Technicians, especially those who obtain national certification, can perform a variety of job duties. They are a crucial part of the pharmacy in assisting pharmacists.
