Summer Camps!

AHEC's around the state hosted camps and experiences all summer long, showcasing health careers through hands-on, immersive experiences.

West Central Indiana AHEC, in collaboration with Indiana University School of Medicine – Terre Haute (IUSM-TH), offer local students the opportunity to learn more about healthcare through the annual Dr. Camp (middle school) and Camp M.D. (high school) programs.

Campers put on a gate belt for the next activity during the Metropolitan Indianapolis Central Indiana AHEC Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy camp.

Northwest Indiana AHEC hosted 3 summer camps in June, including a nursing camp on the Purdue Northwest Westville campus, pictured above.

East Central Indiana AHEC’s Club Medic hosted “A Summer Experience”, where a group of high school students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of health professions’ exploration activities through the various departments within the College of Health at Ball State.

Northeast Indiana AHEC provided support for the University of Saint Francis Health Sciences Camp, where students participated in hands-on activities that introduced them to the concepts behind thirteen different healthcare professions.

Nursing Boot Camp was a successful collaboration between Pulaski Memorial Hospital and North Central Indiana AHEC.

Students learned about EMS careers and toured an ambulance with a paramedic, among many other activities, during Hanover College Health Science Summer Academy. It was held with support from East Indiana AHEC.

Students and professionals took their time out of their summer to get CPR & First Aid certified, thanks to a partnership between the South Central Indiana AHEC and IU Health. A course was taught at Mitchell High School and provided training to these community members.

In collaboration with Southwest Indiana AHEC, University of Evansville nursing programs hosted a group of students from the Deaconess Health Institute.

Indiana AHEC well represented at state and national events

This past June, regional center and program office staff attended the Indiana Rural Health Association Annual Conference in French Lick.

The National AHEC Organization (NAO) biennial conference in Salt Lake City, UT happened in late June, and Indiana was well represented with staff and Scholars students. Many served on planning committees, judged posters, and presented at the conference.

Congratulations to our own Dr. Jennifer Taylor, director of the Indiana AHEC Network and current NAO president! She was awarded a President's Award at the NAO biennial conference.

The President’s Award is given yearly by the NAO president to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding service to the National AHEC Organization.

Pictured with Dr. Taylor is Aileen Harris, center director of Capital (VA) AHEC and immediate past NAO president, who was also presented with the award.
