What to See, Eat and Do in Chicago

Picks by Bob Goldsmith, Southern Maryland Serran and Convention Committee Member
Special interest visit
If you are interested in money, a visit to the museum of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago located at 230 South LaSalle street will be worthwhile. After a short introductory video, you may examine the educational exhibits and displays on the history and structure of the Federal Reserve System. Coin and currency displays area also present. A souvenir packet of shredded currency is provided. The bank museum is temporarily closed, but if open in October, this hidden gem will be well worth your time.
Favorite Catholic space in Chicago
Any trip to Chicago must consider visiting Holy Name Cathedral, the heart of the Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago. Dedicated in 1875, its architecture is displayed in the Gothic revival style. One's vision is uplifted by the perpendicular emphasis of the aspirational pinnacles and arches. The Bronze cathedral doors, the resurrection crucifix, and the sanctuary panels of the holy name are also striking.
Recommended Dining
For a different dining experience the Russian Tea Time restaurant is one of my favorites. It is located at 77 East Adams street within easy walking distance of our hotel. Obviously Russian dining is dominant but food selections from other nearby countries such as Ukraine, Moldavia, and Uzbekistan are also found. Selections include piroshkis, lamb strudel and my personal favorite, the beef stroganoff.
Toronto June 2021 Convention Postponed;
Serrans to Meet in Chicago, Oct. 7-10, 2021
As we expect most parts of the Serra world to be in a better position in terms of Covid-19 vaccinations and a decline in infection rates this Fall, we have postponed the Toronto convention until 2022 and scheduled a streamlined Serra International Convention experience in Chicago on October 7-10, 2021!
Reserve Your Room at the Palmer House Hilton
Serra International has reserved a block of rooms at the historic and beautiful Palmer House Hilton hotel, at the unbelievable rate of $149 per night. Founded in 1871, the Palmer House is the longest-operating hotel in North America and a designated Chicago landmark.

The Palmer House is near multiple Chicago world-class attractions, including the Art Institute, the Field Museum, and the Shedd Aquarium. It's also surrounded by some of the finest and most fun shopping Chicago has to offer.

Early October is one of the finest times to visit Chicago, with highs in the mid to high 60s F. Check out the average weather for that time here.
