Easter Skiing has been AMAZING!!

The trails are awesome, the weather is beautiful, and the smiles are everywhere right now.

Easter skiing has been about as good as it gets. Despite everything this season has thrown at us, the last few weeks have delivered— I love Spring Skiing. It has been incredible to see so many people out enjoying it.

Yesterday, after a glorious ski, I felt inspired to pull out the easel and spend a little extra time on the snow, just taking it all in.

If you have been waiting for a sign to get out, this is it. Conditions are great and it is shaping up to be a fantastic weekend.

Grooming operations will be slowing down after Monday, so this is a great opportunity to get out and enjoy what is likely some of the best skiing of the spring.

Get out there, soak it in, and enjoy it.

Note: This is a Painting of me, painting an image of the beautiful day

Who is the mystery artist that captured this moment?

What to expect for Grooming in April

As noted, we will be starting to wind down our grooming operations as warmer temperatures—and perhaps even some rain and thunderstorms—make their way into the forecast.

That said, we are not done yet.

We know this winter did not always cooperate, and we want to give our members every bit of skiing we can. Our team will still be getting out when it makes sense, but grooming will no longer be happening daily.

That does not mean the skiing stops… it just changes. I love Spring Skiing, you just need to be ready for the varying conditions.

Spring skiing tends to follow a bit of a pattern:

  • If temperatures dip below 0°C overnight, mornings can be a bit firm or icy
  • As the day warms up, things soften up a bit
  • By late afternoon, it can get slower but still fun (perhaps more of a workout)
  • And as the sun goes down, things will start to firm up again

Whether we groom or not (and yes, grooming days are usually a bit better), the trails are still very skiable—you just have to find your window.

There are definitely some sweet spots out there depending on what you like. I was out at 11:00am yesterday and it was amazing. Today at 2:00pm it was a bit slower, but still a great ski.

Ask ten people and you will get ten different answers—some swear by mornings, others love the evenings, and some just want that soft spring snow.

And for families… this is the good stuff. No complaining about the cold, no frozen fingers, no rock-hard tracks. Just warm air, soft snow, and a chance to head out for a relaxed ski, cook a hot dog at the gravel pit, and enjoy being outside.

If you have not experienced spring skiing yet, now is the time. As always, watch our Grooming Report for updates!

Rental Shop Office Hours:

We are Winding Down

Just like our grooming operations, office hours will also be starting to wind down for the season.

Aaron will still be lurking around the buildings through the end of April—cleaning up, organizing, and making sure everything is properly wrapped up for the off season.

Moving forward, Rental Shop hours will shift to Monday to Friday, 9:00am–4:00pm. Big thanks to our weekend team for all their work throughout the season.

One quick note for this week: John, Aaron, and Peter will be away attending the Cross Country Ski Areas Association Annual Conference in Canmore (Apr 7-10). As a result, there will be no office hours throughout the week. This conference is a great opportunity to connect with other Nordic centres throughout North America, share ideas, and bring back new ways to keep improving what we do here at Caledonia.

If you are still hoping to sneak in a few spring skis (and you absolutely should), day passes remain available through our online purchase option—even if you missed out on a full membership this season.

Aaron will be back in the building on April 13, likely full of new ideas and inspiration… including some interesting alternatives to snow. If you are curious, check out this product from Inter-Mtn (Mr. Snow) that we will be learning more about—some pretty wild stuff.

As always, thanks for being part of the season.

Bike Program Registration is OPEN!

We might still be squeezing every last bit out of ski season, but things are already ramping up for what comes next—and our bike programs are filling fast.

Spring Sessions and Summer Bike Camps are now open, and the response has been awesome. In fact, the first three weeks of summer camps are already full (one spot in week 3), so if you are thinking about getting your kids involved, now is the time to jump in.

These programs are built around keeping kids active, building confidence, and making the most of being outside. Whether they are just getting comfortable on two wheels or already ripping around the trails, our coaches do a great job of meeting riders where they are at and helping them progress. We have a great crew of coaches returning and a group of new, keen coaches excited to get involved.

We focus on developing strong fundamentals—climbing, descending, braking, gearing, and cornering—while also introducing bike setup and basic maintenance. But more than anything, it is about creating a fun, supportive environment where kids can learn, play, and feel successful. Expect lots of games, plenty of smiles, and groups organized by age and ability. I am even going to build a Gaga Ball Ring, which is so fun (Gaga Ball Info)

It is a natural transition from winter programs and a great way to keep that momentum going into spring and summer.
