WHAT TO PACK

Are you getting excited about your trip to Italy?!

This is the first of several communications where we will share helpful hints and suggestions to help get you ready for your trip. Our trip is right around the corner and it is a great time to begin thinking about what you'll bring along.

GENERAL SUGGESTIONS

Italy is dressier than the United States. You will appreciate feeling put together and somewhat stylish. But throw out the notion that you need to wear different things in Italy than you do in the U.S. We live in a globalized world. So if it is in style in the U.S., chances are it will be in Italy as well. Italians simply have a more refined taste than your typical American. So packing a simple, capsule-type wardrobe is always a good idea.

FOR WOMEN

Shorts are not as prevalent in Italy, even in the summer. Women typically wear flowy sundresses in linen, cotton, and gauze as well as other breathable fabrics. The nights may become a bit cooler, so a lightweight wrap or sweater may be a good choice to cover your arms as we will eat outside in the evening.

FOR MEN

Dress shorts are an option for men, especially during the day. Men tend to wear more collared shirts in Italy, instead of t-shirts with logos (except for on the tennis court). Also note that you may want to supplement with a long-sleeved shirt, sweater, or casual jacket for cooler evenings.

TENNIS AND SWIMWEAR

You will want to pack clothing for our daily tennis clinics. If you want to take advantage of the pool, remember a swimsuit!

FOOTWEAR

COMFORT over style is the name of the game!! Please pack shoes that are comfortable for walking miles over uneven cobblestones. Test them extensively at home before bringing them with you to Italy. Your feet will thank you!!

DRESS FOR DINNER

You do not ever need to dress differently for dinner than you did during our outings during the day. Some people prefer to change their shoes just to give their feet a breather, however, even that is not a necessity.

PACK LIGHTLY

While it is not required, you will want to consider packing lightly. Nobody ever says that they wish they had brought more things! You will be maneuvering your own luggage through the airport and train station, and up and down stairs at your accommodations. So keep that in mind as you decide what luggage to bring and what to pack. You will have access to a washing machine, but dryers are rare in Italy due to sky-high energy costs. So keep in mind how quickly your clothes air dry. Although in summer, this is rarely an issue. The takeaway is that you can easily throw in a load of laundry and cut down on the number of things that you need to pack.

We hope that this has given you some things to think about as you begin to plan for your fun Italian adventure. Watch for additional information coming your way in the coming weeks, and please reach out if you need additional guidance on what to bring (or leave at home). We want you to have the best experience EVER!
