- Ahead of Thanksgiving, the country was averaging about 95,000 new cases a day, an increase of about 25 percent over two weeks. That uptick has been fueled largely by worsening conditions in the Upper Midwest and Northeast.

Many health departments will not report data on Thanksgiving, and some will not return to normal reporting until after the holiday weekend. The Times has changed how it calculates its case curve to help lessen the effects of inconsistent data reporting over the holidays.

Michigan leads the country in recent cases per capita. The state is averaging more than 8,000 new cases a day.

Reports of new cases are up more than 80 percent over the last two weeks in Massachusetts and up more than 70 percent in Illinois.

Nearly 60 percent of Americans are fully vaccinated.
Dec. 1, 2021 in the U.S., the seven-day daily average number of new cases was 83,120; the 14-day change in cases was a decrease of 2 percent, with a total of 48,520,045 total cases. The seven-day daily average number of new hospitalizations was 54,906; the 14-day change in hospitalization was an increase of 15 percent. The seven-day daily average number of new deaths was 893, the 14-day change in new deaths was a decrease of 16 percent, and the U.S. death total has reached 780,843. Sixty nine percent of the U.S. population over the age of 12 is fully vaccinated, 81percent have had one jab.

An average of 2,889 cases per day were reported in Canada in the last week. Cases have increased by 19 percent from the average two weeks ago. Deaths have decreased by 29 percent. Eighty one percent of Canadians have had at least one shot.

An average of 42,338 cases per day were reported in the United Kingdom in the last week. Cases have increased by 10 percent from the average two weeks ago. Deaths have decreased by 20 percent. Seventy six percent of those in the U.K. have had at least one shot.

An average of 32,152 cases per day were reported in France in the last week. Cases have increased by 185 percent from the average two weeks ago. Deaths have increased by 99 percent. Seventy six percent of the French have had at least one shot.

An average of 12,345 cases per day were reported in Italy in the last week. Cases have increased by 59 percent from the average two weeks ago. Deaths have increased by 24 percent. Seventy eight percent of Italians have had at least one shot.

An average of 8,696 cases per day were reported in Spain in the last week. Cases have increased by 110 percent from the average two weeks ago. Deaths have decreased by 1 percent. Eighty one percent of Spaniards have had at least one shot.

An average of 58,134 cases per day were reported in Germany in the last week. Cases have increased by 42 percent from the average two weeks ago. Deaths have increased by 54 percent. 71 percent of Germans have had at least one shot.
