Baltimore City was awarded $641 million dollars through the American Rescue Plan in 2021. That money was on top of other money awarded for covid relief purposes, and can be spent on a wide variety of things. So how is the city spending the money?
The Baltimore Banner reported this week that about “38% of the city’s assessed grant recipients are listed as ‘Medium Risk/High Risk.” This includes the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement, which includes Safe Streets, and is receiving almost $50 million dollars. See a list of recipients here.
How can residents make sure the money is being spent wisely? PEACE, along with media outlets and other watchdog groups will continue to keep you informed. You can also contact your city council members HERE.
