We launched the “Every 9 Seconds” campaign on October 2 to honor Domestic Violence Awareness Month and raise funds for our growing work to support survivors and end domestic violence. 

Your response has been so generous! We raised over $100,000 in donations, all of which will be matched by a special donor, leading us to a total of over $200,000 raised to support our domestic violence services.

And while we work year-round to increase awareness of domestic violence through our prevention, education, and training programs, this month we have doubled down on that effort through media, film, and special events. See below to learn more.

We invite you to join us for a screening and discussion of the documentary HOME TRUTH.

Filmed over the course of nine years, HOME TRUTH chronicles one family’s pursuit of justice, shedding light on how our society responds to domestic violence and how the trauma from domestic violence tragedies can linger throughout generations.

Gong-Gershowitz to speak at YWCA’s domestic violence conference Nov. 20
According to public health experts, an abused woman is five times more likely to be killed by her abuser if he owns a firearm. 

Illinois State Rep. Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz, who has personal experience with domestic violence and gun violence, will be the opening speaker at our annual domestic violence conference. We invite you to join us to learn more about this important issue:

How you can help someone in an abusive relationship
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and research shows that at least 60 percent of us know a victim of domestic abuse. But what can we do to help?

Sandy T. Williams, domestic violence residential and community services director at YWCA Evanston/North Shore, offers some advice, which can be found here.
