The One You've Been Waiting For...
One of the questions we get most frequently over the summer is, "When are you going to sell your used equipment??" Well, the time has finally arrived! We've got a lot of good info in this newsletter. Scroll down to the bottom and find out if your perfect kayak/paddleboard is available and then come back and read about the new full-day tour we'll be offering, our upcoming fundraiser info, our report on our recent employee regatta, and our fun new tee design!
We're looking forward to seeing you on the water!

Full Day Assateague Back Country Trip

The back country area of Assateague Island National Seashore is a pristine landscape that begs to be explored by kayak. Read Coastal Kayak Guide Bob Collin's description of his recent paddle and then call us to sign up for this special trip on Sept. 17!
Fall Hours

It's coming....the second season! Fall is an amazing time here at the beach. The crowds are gone. The water is still warm. It is a great time to paddle! We will be open (barring any hurricanes!) through Columbus Day Weekend but we'll be cutting back on our hours a bit. Make sure to call and/or check our calendar when planning your paddling adventure!

If you're considering coming in for a paddle and you're wondering what the conditions look like, or if you just want to see what our CK staff is up to (probably a lot of no good!), check out our live feed webcam here!

Paddle for a Cure

On Sunday afternoon, Sept. 18, we'll have our 15th Annual Paddle for a Cure, benefiting Delaware's Cancer Support Community.
This year's Paddle for a Cure will launch in the late afternoon from the Ocean City commercial harbor. Our professional guides will take participants through the harbor, alongside fishing boats, learning about the different methods commercial fisherman use to bring in their catch, to the north end of Assateague Island to enjoy an incredible view just before sunset! Our ACA certified kayak instructors have been paddling these waters for over 25 years and know how to navigate the currents to make the trip a lot of fun while giving participants an opportunity to explore in conditions they might not otherwise experience. A donation of $30 per person is requested in lieu of a registration fee. Space is limited and reservations are required; must be 13 years of age or older to participate.
Call 302.539.7999 for more information and to register.
Big Hugs...
We know, we know. The end of the season is not the time to be coming out with a new tee design. But we had a fun idea and just couldn't help it! If you can't beat 'em, hug 'em! And besides, who doesn't want a shirt that says "Little Assawoman" on it??

Stay the Course - Using Range to Determine Your Position

In the past   two articles we talked about wind - both the effects of fetch, as well as what effect wind has on our kayak. This time we are going to talk about how to tell what the wind or current is doing to our kayak (or paddle board). A lot of times, especially on stand up paddle boards, our renters go out and even thought they are pointed into the wind and paddling forwards, they are actually losing ground and going backwards. Another common scenario is that they are heading out to Point of Cedars Island and even though they think they are going straight towards it they are actually being pushed well to the side making their paddle much longer than expected. So how can you tell, once on the water, exactly what your boat or board is doing? The answer is: by using a range. Read more...
