Let's Talk About HR

Dear SBDC clients & partners,

Now, the # 1 topic in our 1:1 client sessions is human resource needs. You know that talent success leads to performance success, and talent success happens when businesses attract, secure, train, motivate, manage & support people.

This HR section is to designed to share connections to resources & tools to help with your people needs. From hourly to executive team members, there are resources and tools to help you excel. Need an introduction or a tool you can't find here? Let us know — give us a call, and explore some of our region's other 'people partners' below and on our Local Resources Providers page under 'Workforce Related.'

Everything we have to share won't fit in one newsletter, so watch for more!

Yours in partnership - Rebecca & your SBDC Team

Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is a leader in solutions for ...you got it, human resource management. We call their Employee Handbook Builder a $400 insurance policy to help avoid compliance and potential employment hiring and firing problems. Choose your state to build your handbook.

Have employees in multiple states? You must check the requirements in each state.

Have international employees? Clients have shared that Rippling has helped them solve that need.

Business Recordkeeping Blues?

Use this robust resource to be on your game with business recordkeeping. Developed by SBDC subject matter expert, Ellen Martin.

Business Recordkeeping Best Practices

Did you know? There are firms that facilitate access to all kinds of Employee Benefits.

Such firms do not charge the business owner for their assistance. They help you explore a "BenefitMall" platform to choose the programs and benefits that will best suit your business.

CV SBDC recently met with local broker Bryan Redieske, who is with McGriff, a subsidiary of Truist Bank. McGriff is a respected provider of insurance solutions to individuals and small businesses.

Not sure if you are paying the right wages for your industry? Check the U.S. Department of Labor Compliance Assistance Toolkit

For a deeper understanding relating to employment compliance, you can review the Interactive Digital Reference Guide to the FLSA.

Still have questions? Contact our local representative to explore what you need to know for your startup or existing business: Cindy Maish, Community Outreach and Resource Planning Specialist. Her role is to help you know what you don't know!

CV SBDC & growing business owner, Michael Klemmer, recommend that any business ready to provide meaningful work experience to a veteran or veteran spouse consider taking the next step to host a Fellow through HOH. Utilizing this program allows your business to access talent, free-of-charge, while supporting career advancement for veterans.

CEO of Aerial Resupply Coffee, Michael Klemmer, shared the success he has found in engaging talent through Hiring Our Heroes.

"Most people don't realize the phenomenal talent available through the military spouse and veteran community. The best part? The 12-week program is funded and paid for by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. I quickly identified the exact talent I needed to support our marketing work. In 2 days, a military spouse brought aboard Aerial Resupply Coffee through Hiring Our Heroes has fundamentally revamped and improved our entire social media strategy."

Security Summit: Identity Protection PINs are an important tool against tax-related identity theft

Identity Protection PINs, also referred to as IP PINs, serve as a critical defense against identity thieves. "The IP PIN is the number one security tool currently available to taxpayers from the IRS," the independent IRS advisory group said in its annual report to Congress. "This tool is the key to making it more difficult for criminals to file false tax returns in the name of the taxpayer. In our view, the benefits of increased IP PIN use are many."
