Free Flu and COVID Booster Shots to be Provided Anyone 5 and Older During Holiday ‘Boosterama’ on Saturday, Dec. 17, at Westfield Wheaton | As the holiday season coincides with a rise in respiratory virus cases, Montgomery County, in partnership with Por Nuestra Salud y Bienestar and Westfield Wheaton, will provide free COVID bivalent boosters and flu shots during the second holiday “Boosterama” vaccine event. COVID booster shots will be available to anyone age 5 and older who had their last dose at least two months ago. The event will take place from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Westfield Wheaton mall. Read more. | |
Westbound Reedie Drive Lane Closure Scheduled for December 10, to Impact Select Ride On Routes | |
Due to building maintenance, the westbound lane of Reedie Drive between Georgia Avenue and Amherst Avenue will be closed on December 10. Closure will begin at 7am and last until 4pm. Ride On Routes 7, 8, 9 & 31 will detour to enter the Wheaton Transit Center.

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and the first 11-member County Council were sworn in to new terms at inauguration ceremonies this week. It provides a prime opportunity for the County Executive to look back at what was accomplished in his first four years in office and what he considers priorities for the next four years. He also looks at immediate issues—such as local hospitals having their beds filled by the “tridemic” of flu, RSV and COVID-19. He advocates for residents to get flu shots and COVID booster shots, noting that the County will be distributing free vaccines at its next “Boosterama” event at Westfield Wheaton mall on Saturday, Dec. 17. The Montgomery County Office of Human Rights and M&T Bank are partnering for the second year to offer a free 10-week “Small Business Accelerator Program” to assist small businesses—both emerging ones and those trying to rebuild from the impacts the COVID health crisis. The program will teach early-stage and minority entrepreneurs the essentials of business planning, operations, credit building, digital communication and financial management. The Montgomery County “Design for Life” program provides property tax incentives to make homes accessible for all ages and stages of life. Scientists at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) require a safe, steady, and reliable source of blood for their research
The NIH Blood Bank is enrolling healthy volunteers to join its Research Blood Donor Program - a Clinical Center study which supports over 200-NIH research laboratories studying health problems such as heart disease, cancer, and immune deficiencies.
Though not used for direct patient care, Research Blood Donations are critical to the advancement of science - contributions that allow Investigators to pursue - and discover - new treatments and therapies.
To be eligible, you must be 18 years of age or older and meet volunteer blood donor eligibility criteria, with a few exceptions.
You should not participate in this study if you (1) have a history of heart, lung, or kidney disease or bleeding disorders (2) have known sickle cell disease (3) are pregnant.
Participation includes a preassessment evaluation and blood draw and then repeated donations of either whole blood or a single component of blood by apheresis.
Study donors are compensated for their participation.

Resurfacing Project for 3.7-Miles of MD 108 in Olney Area Will Improve Road, But Will Create Traffic Disruptions Through Summer 2023 | |
The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is beginning a $3.7 million safety and resurfacing project on MD 108 from Olney Mill Road to Brooke Road in Olney. Weather permitting, the 3.7-mile project is expected to be complete by late summer 2023. Read more. | |

County Executive Elrich Is Holding Hybrid Forums to Seek Input on FY 2024 Operating Budget, With Next One on December 12, at Germantown | Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, the County’s regional services offices and community partners will host eight hybrid forums in November and December to seek input on the Fiscal Year 2024 Operating Budget. The first forum will be from 7-8:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 14, at the Mid-County Regional Services Center in Wheaton. Residents can attend the forums in person or view them via the internet. Police Accountability Board Meetings happening in Bethesda
The Police Accountability Board will be having their next board meeting in Bethesda and would love the public to hear what is going on.
Board Meetings are every other Thursday, 7-8pm, and move around the County so as to try to meet you where you are.
Not able to join us in person, no problem. Our meetings are Hybrid, so join us on Microsoft Teams.

Recreation Center Membership Passes Will Be Free in 2023
Montgomery County Recreation Center membership passes will be free for County residents in 2023. Starting Jan. 3, a free pass will provide access to fully equipped fitness rooms, open gym (drop-in) activities and game rooms at any community recreation center during regularly scheduled hours.
