Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of ITP, an auto-immune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring, and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this international award to say thank you and to recognize and honor compassionate nurses. Earlier this month, we announced our fourth DAISY award winner, Maria Banevicius, APRN. Congratulations! | | YWCA New Britain, Recognizes Lisa Roth, DHA, with 2026 Leadership Award | | Congratulations to Lisa Roth, DHA, senior director of health center operations in New Britain for receiving a 2026 Women in Leadership Award from the YWCA New Britain. Although she was unable to attend, her mother proudly accepted the award on her behalf, joined by a "Flat List" and several colleagues there to cheer her on. On May 17, Sabrina Trocchi, PhD, MPA, president and chief executive officer, delivered the 2026 Graduate Commencement Address at the University of Hartford, sharing inspiration for leading in challenging times.
Her message centered on anchoring to purpose, building up the people around you, and practicing self-compassion. Above all, she encouraged graduates to keep “standing at your podium” to make things better—to improve systems, repair what has been harmed, lead with integrity, and bring empathy and courage into every room they enter.

An anonymous donor is once again helping ease the financial strain for Wheeler Health families. Now in its third year, the Summer of Hope initiative is providing roughly two dozen employees with $1,000 childcare and camp stipends, plus coverage of the employee portion of FICA to maximize the benefit. This year saw a record number of applications, highlighting the growing need among staff.

A Connecticut Foster Parent Story

May is Foster Care Month. Below is a Wheeler foster parent story about a couple truly committed to showing support and meeting the unique needs of youth in their care.
Fostering children was not something that Ameria and Donald Forrest of Newington intentionally thought about decades ago. But a request for a sibling from their then-seven-year-old biological daughter prompted consideration.
Since 2010, this couple has fostered 12 children, in various capacities through Wheeler’s Foster Care program, as well as six children through a different provider.
